Seat Leon TDi FR

Thinking of getting one of the old shape Seat Leon TDi FR. About £10k seems to get one of the later ones with low/reasonable mileage, which is about my budget.

I had heard that these 150bhp engines weren't that great but I'm struggling to believe that tbh based on the reputation of VAG diesels in general. Does anyone have any experience of them?

Also potentially thinking of getting it remapped (calling JeffC) - what would these engines safely go to and what's the likely cost?

good motor respond well to a remap, should be able to get it done for £220 cash  at your door  :t-up:  :t-up:

only negs Ive had is clutch slip if you get a stage 3 map fitted on a car thats had life. most are ok though  :t-up:

just to chuck a spanner in the works though for £10k now you can get a new shape Audi  A3 or golf gt 2.0tdi and they are much nicer than the seat  ;)

Thanks for that Jeff. Can't see too many A3/Golfs around for that sort of money though :(  If you do, let me know  :t-up:

ran mine from new on an 05 plate to 70k in 2 years ....

great car ,ran it on track , towed my race car with it , stuffed my entire toolkit and stuff for karting in it .

mine had ever extra going , so if you see one with sat,nav + leather in platinum grey with high milage and a detachable towbar ,then that more than likely the one as seat uk made me wait 3 months so they could get it built ......

great car.

No complaints from me. I had about 5 or 6 of them as company cars, no problems, excellent fun and plenty power. Also had a few of the new shape FR's and at 180 hp they are fantastic as an all round standard car.

I'd have another any time  :t-up:  :t-up:  :t-up:

I owned a Leon Cupra for 5 years and it was one of the best cars I've had. Pulls like a train, very Q-car and a great cruiser. Though mine was a 1.8t.

My only complaint is that the Seat parts distribution service is crap and totally inadequate and even after having one for 5 years, they still hadn't sorted it.

Regular items that were known to fail like indicator relays, brake light switches, water leaks, are all known common problems and yet I had to wait 3 weeks most of the time for these items!! And driving around for 3 weeks without indicators is a challenge and a half!!

Great car backed up by crap service, and that was my main reason I wouldn't buy another Seat Leon again. I had a job and a half trying to find something else that met my criteria.

So I went for a new shape Honda Civic iCDTi.

Think I'm going to take one for a spin. Having read the replies (thanks guys) and spoken with Ash I think they could be what I'm after.

Jeff - after the remap, what are the figures? And is it worth it more to the point?

I would forget the figures that different companys talk about its all pub talk :D

the guy that does mine will do you what ever you want, If you want it really strong he will give you a stage 3 (thats what my 335d  runs) on a 150 I wouldnt get too carried away as Ive known when cranked right up clutches slip and intercooler pipes blowing off

I had my old Peugeot done by Jeff's man and the difference was amazing. However, 15 months on when I part exed it in the clutch was slipping at 60k

I bought a chip from a guy at Cadwell last year...fitted it...noticeable improvement (in ascending order) in economy and torque but not so sure about power. Remove it, effect goes away.

Econometer shows overall improvement from 45mpg on a long journey average to almost 55mpg on the same run.

Further evidence, engine labours in 6th when towing without chip, everything hunky dory with chip.

Car going back in November, want a chip?
