ccoolliinn Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Hi Have been a Westfield owner since 1987 but have only just joined the forum. My car is an alloy bodied Westfield Seven, are there any of these cars still around. Are other members owners of this model as I have not seen one for 10 years+. Quote

westy666 Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 welcome colin - sounds like you have one of the very early prelits there got any pics? would be great to see it Damian Quote
cast iron Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Steve Pritchard (Mid life crisis) reckoned his was alloy bodied, certainly doesnt look like a prelit. Quote
rm163603 Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I've seen the original westfield 7 press car that was built and it's all alloy in the same way as a locost is (and a caterham I guess). Rear arches and nosecone are GRP, body sides and rear is alloy. This car lives out in the US... I have some pics somewhere if anyone is interested. Quote
Doug D. Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Hi Colin Somebody down the road from me used to have an early prelit which was alloy bodied ( with exception to to the nosecone and rear arches) He did sell it on though Quote
Blatman Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Er... all pre-lits were ally bodied... The litigation was what forced Westfield to alter the bodywork and materials used. I believe there are some pre-lit chassis cars around with post lit narrow body fibreglass bodywork, but I think they're best described as hybrids... Quote
Azzacat Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Tis funny that, Tiger do a 100% Ally bodied 7 abomination called an RS 6, Cant understand why or who its aimed at either, its well over 23 grand... seems a step backwards They say its for the race serieis but when a nose cone cost just under 2 grand i cant se many people affording to run one for fear of a bump.... Quote
Evo,s 7SE Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 sorry blatman youre wrong my pre lit is fibreglass bodied Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I thought that some of the Prelit cars had fibreglass bodywork too Quote
Blatman Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Applied at the time, or has someone added it after the fact? I'm a little hazy on that part, but why would Westfield, a small and impoverished company (at the time) make two sets of bodywrok simultaneously, when there (was) no imperative to do so? Surely they would have produced fibregalss from the start and avoided the expense of lawyers. I need to check my history books... Quote
Mark Stanton Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 QUOTE Er... all pre-lits were ally bodied... Sorry Blats yam wrung earlier pre-lits were alloy bodied - then they moved onto being fibreglass bodies it was at this time a company down sarf though ang on and legal letters were drafted - with an out of court settlement and lo the SE was born with re-styled fibreglass bodywork around late 87 / early 88 I'll get me anorak Quote
StuartMackay Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 One of the members in the Norfolk/Suffolk group has a very early Spridget based westfield, pic here IIRC this has glass "egg crate" nose and narrow glass rear wings emulating the series one L*tus S*ven? Maybe Paul, our AO, has some better pics? Quote
