marcosman Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 At last, went to Derby yesterday and passed the sva. Great round trip of 150 miles and the car went like a dream even though I have no windscreen, or heater , it was great. Armed with all the neccessary docs I went to Oxford DVLA to register today and, after they had accepted all my docs and given me the donor agerelated registration and I paid them for a years tax the b*******s then told me that I would have to present the car to Bicester on the 14th March for an inspection!! Question- If I now go ahead and put my windscreen on will it cause a problem at the inspection or are they just checking that the new and donor parts that I say were used , were actually used? any help appreciated. SparkyB Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Nah it shouldn't matter, they usually ask to see the car at the DVLA office to confirm chassis number, engine number etc and check it is real Edit: Try to get a letter to confirm the appointment, just in case a cop pulls you over (valid insurance etc too) Quote
rob iles Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Cant comment on the DVLA but congrats on the pass Quote
CedricTheBrave Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Brighton DVLA sent a guy round my house to inspect. took him about 3 minutes to check the VIN and engine number then the rest of the time to chat about the car. but then I do live in the south Quote
markcoopers Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Similar experience, years ago had a guy trying to get under the car on the side of a bussy road outside the farham/portsmouth offices to confirm ford/donnor parts. he had no idea what a Ford gearbox or rear suspension looked like, teh lorries were getting close, so he took my word and gave me a pass with the correct score to get the age related plate i wanted. marcosman Posted February 26, 2008 Author Posted February 26, 2008 Thanks everyone for your comments. I shall spend the next couple of weeks putting on the extra bits left off for the sva. It just annoys me that we take so much care to make a good job of our cars and we get hounded for more and more useless info but no-one checks on the fibre glass additions that the go-faster lads stick on their tinlids that render them dangerous. VX2L16V Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 had to trailer mine to the inspection Quote
scruffythefirst Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 got mine inspected at home 3 weeks before sva, still took a week after passing sva to get a tax disc though Quote
Rolsty Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Hi I took mine to bicester last july,i was told i had to trailer it there (i could drive it to the sva at yeading but not to the test at bicester 15 miles away!!) He took a look at the engine number and chassis number whilst on the trailer and sent me on my way -5 minutes tops! it then took a week to get the registration sorted after that? - it was the same bloke from the test who claimed he didn't know anything about the points system to register it on an age related plate Quote
karlos Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 had to trailer mine to the inspection Exactly right, b****y annoying isn't it! You can drive to & from the SVA, but drive to the DVLA inspection?? No sir! DVLA is only concerned about the Identity of the vehicle so those are the checks thet make. Quote
marcosman Posted February 29, 2008 Author Posted February 29, 2008 I have only just read the document that they gave me at the dvla all the way through and Rolsty and karlos are right. I have got hire a bl**dy trailer to get the car to the site. Sod that , I have driven it legally 150 miles to get the test done ( by the way ,I cannot recommend Derby test centre too much. Two great knowledgeable testers) but I have to trailer it 40 mins down the road for some t****r to check two numbers. What a load of B******s. Quote
Norman Verona Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Can't beleive what I'm reading. Is this "joined up" goverment? Why can't the numbers be confirmed on the SVA? Am I missing something? Quote

R1 STRIKER Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Almost completed build of my caterham academy car (yeah, sorry!). Was gonna drive it to sva but dvla being a pain! They say if it has more than 12 miles on it, they will not issue 08 reg! So looks like trailer even though I can legally insure it on chassis number. Then to top it off, have to tow it to them and unload it for someone to spend 30 secs checking chassis number. They will not look at it if still on trailer. Health and safety I guess! Ben. Quote
