slippy Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 I was up to a lot worse at 15 but agree with the others allow her to make her own informed decision as trying to force her one way or the other could make her rebel show her a picture of slippy and explain how it stunts your growth!!! It really amazes me the amount of young kids that smoke these days, especially with all the info thats available. I don't smoke but tinkered with it a bit when I was younger, I didn't like it and didn't like the cost of it so only smoked when there was something added to the baccy back then the health risks were known but not publicized the way they are now. I wish I could say the same about drinking. I worked in pubs and clubs from the age of 16 glass collecting etc and although it was illegal I was drinking far too much, at 18 I went to the doctors with lower back problems he asked how much I drank and told me I would be lucky to see the far side of 30 unless I cut down (and that was been conservative with the truth). It was a long time before I cut down and that was more for financial reasons than health, I'm still here but I'm pretty sure there's a lot of things I can blame on drinking; memory loss etc. If I could turn back the clock this is one thing I would change, having said that I still have an odd shandy now and then now. Oi For the record old Slippery hasn't smoked boxing day 2007 Still miss it after a few pots like Quote
Norman Verona Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 For what it's worth I spent a year convincing myself that smoking was a horrible habit, the smoke got in my eyes and I stank etc, etc. So when I gave up at midnight after my last smoke it was seen by me as a relief. Didn't really help and had some pretty bad moments but stuck to it. It is an addiction as I still sometimes crave a cigarette after 3 years. Just tell myself not to be stupid and it seems to work, so far. So all is fine, except I still stink Quote
PeP Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I gave up 3 years ago last month after years of trying and I've got to admit it was easy in the end, I read Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking and am still amazed how it made it so easy. I've never seen my copy of the book since because it's been passed around so many people. Great read if you want to give up. Quote

Essentially he convinces you that its easy to give up ,not hard. You only think it's hard because eveyone else in the world says it's hard Clever stuff Quote
Lurksalot Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Yep you just need to give up for 3 minutes . then the craving dies down until the next 3 minutes and it slowly gets further between cravings and the cravings get weeker..... but only if you really want to give up Quote

DerekJ Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Our daughter was the MOST adamant of anti-smokers until she was 20. (I've never smoked SWMBO is a HEAVY smoker.) After she married she just started for no good reason and now is a hopeless addict too. Let’s start a “Smoking Should Be Banned” petition at No10 and have done with it. I’m sure no one would object.
