Before I commit to cutting up my carbon blank - I was wondering if I could have some opinions on my layout - from a practicality point of view.

Cosmetically, the black-faced fuel guage will hopefully get swapped for a white faced stack in the future but it seems they only do auxilliary guages in black at the moment. I will also have a little wideband guage next to the fuel guage later too.

The hazzard switch and fog switch are hidden behind the right hand steering wheel spoke.

Did you have to ditch the plastic steering column surround to fit it or does it squeeze in anyway?

I never had a shroud as my car is a pre SVA item, registered before 1998...

I have a 300mm wheel without a crash pad, so the viewable area through the wheel is probably a bit larger than what you have. That said, my gauges are rotated such that at normal operating temps and pressures, the needles point vertically upwards. Makes it easy to read what's what 'cos a needle that ain't vertical = a problem that needs monitoring ;) The tacho is "level" though...

I moved all my larger dials to the left away from steering wheel - much easier to read - smaller ones with big red warning lights are right in front of my eyeline  ;)  ;)

Depends what you'll be using car for - road cruising gives more time to view dials - track and comp use perhaps needs a less aesthetic and more practical approach  ;)  :D

A lot of people dump that steering wheel  at a later date- bear in mind if you do swap to say a smaller wheel or whatever then you might then need the gauges in a different place.

My only other thought, and this is a personal thing, is that there is a vast expanse of nothing from the steering wheel to the left hand side and that looks a bit dull (I realise there will be some switches).

Yeah, it's not the greatest looking wheel available - I guess other wheels may not have the lugs to trigger the indicators self cancel in the same way too but that'll be a bridge to cross at a later date.

The Varnished ply look will be cool, don't bother with the carbon -so last year   :p:p

I have my tach/speedo unit dead center in the steering wheel, flanked by two auxiliary gauges (the other two gauges are in the center of the dash but angled towards the driver).   It looks like your crashpad would block the LCD display in your Stack if configured this way, so perhaps it’s time for a different wheel?  ;)  BTW my tach/speedo is white, whereas all my other gauges are black.   Personally I like this contrast, which really serves to emphasize the tach.

If you're thinking of a bling led wideband gauge, I wouldn't stick infront of you... they're discotastic & pretty damn bright ;)

fwiw I've got 4 toggles to left of steering wheel

Main/Dip                     Indicators

Off/Side/Main

Horn

Left of those I've got a veypor digidash with integral 2 stage shift light angled to driver, below that a dual water temp/oil pressure gauge

Fog toggle with telltale to right of steering wheel, hazard below that

Bright6 above steering wheel, shift light from ecu above that.

That's it /minimalistb*******allonlefthalfofdash

Personally, I wouldn't have the fuel gauge behind the wheel.  You're not going to need to refer to it very often.. or are you expecting very bad fuel economy?!! :D

I'd agree with other posts - get the tacho as central as possible.  I put mine off centre,   which was fine for the WF wheel, but when I changed to a smaller wheel it meant the edge of the tacho was obscured.

VX2L16V - Good point on the wideband. I'm planning on using the stack w/b and it does look a little bit blingy.

Longshanks - When my engine was in my old car I was doing around 5mpg at full chat so although the Westy is much lighter I'm not expecting great fuel economy. I take your point though, looking straight at the fuel guage all the time could become a little depressing!

Truly Skint - Thanks mate, I did use the dash designer - it's a fantastic tool but I just wanted to know how people have got on with their layouts on a more practical level.
