Errr If what your saying is correct, i think your mechanic is getting his wires crossed (excuse the pun     )

The Coolant Temp SENDER which feeds your Temperature gauge only has one terminal on the XE

The Coolant Temperature SENSOR which feeds the ECU is usually coloured Blue and has Two terminals

The Coolant Temp Sender is available from most motor factors and costs about £5

The Sensor will be more Expensive...

As for the Wiring it could well just be dodgy connections, a Continuity check with a Multimeter should help identify the problem

Don't condem the wiring yet...

Agreed. You *should* find both sensors virtually next to each other on the housing that the thermostat hosuing bolts too :t-up:

Cheers he must be looking in the wrong book. I'll see him tomorrow and correct him.

Temperature Sensor   CLICKY

Temperature Sender

Double check the part Numbers

But at least you now know they are available and what they look like     :t-up:

Cheers. I will take the sender out and take it with me when I go to get a new one. Is there an easy way of stopping the coolant draining? I was going to try a blob of blu tac.The throttles were a bit out of balance and mechanic has messed with potentiometer ?? which has improved the performence at low revs. The engine seems sound and the car is running well enough to keep me happy. Having no experience of other Westfields it will be useful to get the opinion of the other local club members  when the weather is suitable for a run out. This can be discussed next Thursday at the local meet.

Best idea is to leave the sensor/sender that you want to change where it is

Get another one by quoting Engine type & age etc from the motor factors

Then when you take the old one out you can replace it with the new one straight away

If your reasonably quick you will loose very little coolant and can then just top up the expansion tank

If you've got Throttle bodies i think you mean the mechanic adjusted the TPS (Throttle position sensor)
