BigRuss Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Anyone got a TechCraft Silencer and know how to repack it? I took the six obvious screws off, but does the central tube come out? If so, can anyone give me any hints as to how? thanks! Quote
SteveC Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 if you are anywhere near to Warwick, drop it back to the workshop. think they charged me £30 to repack and replace a couple of loose rivnuts. Left it there for the afternoon. Cant find the number though, but I'm sure someone wil have it. Steve Quote
RobC Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I had to use 2 bags from Merlin... rolled it round (but not too tight, just tight) the grater bit inside and then slide it all back in... if that makes sense... got it to 95db... edit to say... if you take it apart slowly.. you'll see how it goes together... thinking about it I am not sure if the grater bit comes out... def take apart slowly... someone will be along who can better advise Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 There are 6 bolts at each ened. you should only need to remove them from one end. The perforated tube does come out from one end but does not need to. A long stick is useful for pushing in the packing. I bought a bag from techcraft when i bought the silencer and havent needed to use it yet 5 years on. the stuff they sell is the best stuff. Made from basalt or something similar. very quiet. Chris.B Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Prior to getting my Simpson silencer I had a Techcraft one. Best approach I found was to use a 3ft long wooden batton & "gently" tamp the wadding down into the silencer. The "best" stuff I used in the 3yrs of having the Techcraft was their own brown bassalt wadding. Got this down to 95Db at Combe. Word of warning, in the early days i once rammed too much wadding in & this actually increased the noise. Pulling stuff out & loosening it (with BBQ tongues) it dropped by 4Db. I did once use the white Merlin fibreglass matting, but this didn't give anything like as good results. Edited to correct typos - it's early in the morning USA for me! Quote
