stu999 Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Just wondering if anyone here has any good/bad experiences with a Honda Accord Type-R (2002 vintage)? Seriously considering another addition to the fleet. Seems to be an ideal mix of sensible/stupid Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 One of our office juniors has a Honda Civic Type R never had a problem and its superb very very revvy Quote
perksy Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 There's an owners Forum HERE Mate Might be worth a Look Quote
stewart pickles Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 We have had a few honda's never had any Probs and when i change the car we have now it may well be another accord Quote
Rob Navin Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Didn't have the type R but I have had an 03 2.4 exec. I got it with 40,000 miles on it but it had not had its 30,000 mile service It goes on Friday as it now has 109,000 on it in just over two years of sensible (ok it gets cained every where ) driving. In that time I have had to do the following Four new tyres ( But when I got it they were new as well ) A set of new disks A set of pads ( Could do with replacing now ) Two wipper blades A front fog light ( M62 fox issues ) A service by a mate in the trade 98,0000 An oil temp sensor that was the cars fault ( Nolthing to do with only chaning the oil once ) I can't rate the thing enough. I'm replacing it with a year old Honda legend but only because the toys on it are fantastic ( and its got 300bhp and 4x4 ) Quote
Martin Keene Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 My old man had a slightly earlier one, 1999, but most of it applies. Problems. His had done 63k when some silly old t**t, not my Dad!, wrote it off. The only problems to look out for are a squealy cambelt tensioner, most will probably have been done by now, and a weak syncro on 5th. Syncro on 5th is *very* common, and don't ignore it. The LSD makes replacing the gearbox a truely job. Other than that his was faultless, as you expect. Niggles. Goes through tyres like Amy Winehouse goes through drugs. Because it was a company car Dad stuck to the OE tyres and got through £5500 in 3 years!!! Goes through rears nearly as fast as the front because they have got 1.5 degress of negative camber on the back. Really does need six gears. The only way to come back in on cam when changing from 3rd to 4th is to go 2/300 rpm into the red. Obviously this is not a major problem as you will be knocking on the door of three figures and therefore will obvious be on a track... Positives: Words simply defy belief how well it handles. Manages to feel light, aglie and nimble, yet at the same time feels like it has got that much grip it has been bolted to the floor. Quote
dombanks Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 only bad things i've heared are its heavy on tyres if you cane them and air con was not standard spec. Quote

stu999 Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 Thanks all The only problems to look out for are a squealy cambelt tensioner, most will probably have been done by now, and a weak syncro on 5th. According (groan) to my research, it appears that the 5th gear syncro thing *shouldnt* be a problem on the facelfit (post 2001) models, but as you say, before then, it seems to be a case of 'when' rather than 'if'... Was very impressed with the car from the passenger seat - going back to test drive this weekend now I have found my insurance Ta again Quote

stu999 Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 I drove the old mans on, at least, weekly basis for three years. Starting at just 64 miles old... So, now we know this, exactly how much did your Dad contribute to the £5500 of tyres? Quote
Rob Navin Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Well mine has gone and the Legend has arrived. £300bhp 3.5lt v6 4x4 More toys that toys-R-us More than happy. I don't like the constant update of MPG so I have turned that off. I'm sure it will get better when I stop trying the loud pedal Rob Quote

So, now we know this, exactly how much did your Dad contribute to the £5500 of tyres? Nothing. Company car. Leased. Full maintenance contract. Hence sticking to OE tyres despite their eye watering price... Quote
