Zetec install questions. again!

Hi all, im new to the forum and just joining the wscc even though i have owned my westy for nearly a year

The winter project is a new zetec, i think i have sorted out what i am getting but just want to confirm a couple of things before i spend any cash.

The first thing is the bellhousing, i currently have a type 9 fitted to a vauxhall 8v.  I plan to use an rs2000 bellhousing but i have seen sometimes it is necessary to cut away material around the starter housing.

Looking in the car it seems that the bellhousing will fit fine, as the front of the gearbox is just proud of the ends of the footwells.

Does anyone know if this will still be ok with the zetec installed? or will the gearbox position have to change?

Thansk for the mega quick reply, dont know how i'd manage the conversion without the info on this forum.

Car is a 2002 SEiW and the current box is a type 9 so i think im safe to assume it will be ok.

Planning on buying the engine mounts from westfield so hopefully it will all drop back in the same place!

You might have to mess around with the engine mounts a bit.  Depending on the tunnel/box configuration the majority sit with the engine quite tight on the footwell bulkhead, but there is a combination (I know 'cos mine is one) where the engine sits about 2 inches further forwards.  (Mine was a '98 frame built for a CVH engine, not sure what box.  I now have a Zetec + type 9).  It's not the end of the world, just letting you know in case it doesn't all line up as expected.

Where are you getting the engine from?

If you want a new one (black top Zetec) Power Torque will sell you one for £950 brand new crated.

You will then need a lowered sump (I chose dunnel) and  other bits.

I was fortunate that the new mounts(westfield factory supplied) fitted in the same place as the CVH but the top clearance is very close to the bonnet.

I have a Zetec in an early narrow SE with an RS2000 bell housing and it fits just fine (no mods to the bell housing)

I have also seen Zetecs in Pre-lits, and Low Line body narrow cars so, if you have narrow car (with the 4/5 speed tranny tunnel) it'll fit fine.

If you have a wide with the 4/5 speed tranny tunnel it'll be fine and if you have a wide with an MT75 tunnel and use a Type 9 'box it'll be fine.

If you have a Wide with an MT75 tunnel and wish to move the motor as far back as you can then you will need to mod the bell housing for this.

Chaz.

Looks like im going to have to get the bits and see how it goes!

Got the engine already- new crated.  Here are the other bits i plan to use, if anyone has any experience of these parts or other recommendations feel free to comment.

Engine - 2.0l zetec phase 3

BGH Type 9 Gearbox

RS2000 bellhousing

dunnell cast flywheel

is someone able to tell me what clutch will fit this flyweel or do i have to use the dunnell parts?

sump - looks like dunnell is the best option in terms of quality and price

Planning on changing to arp rod bolts before install

Bike throttlebodies (respaced and new fuel rail) and omex management from existing setup

new exhaust system - recommendations?

Inlet manifold to take bike bodies - recommendations?

Also looking to add cams in the near future - once i have it all running nicely - anyone have recommendations on these?

The Dunnel sump is very good but the bolts they supply for mounting the windage tray are not any good, as they suggest drilling and welding extensions into the four crank bolts.

I have a local fabrication company that will make one piece bolts for £30 plus £2 postage.

I have them in mine and have just had some made for Newbear in the south.

If you want any info re my install call me on 07973 839937.

P.s the standard 2.0l flywheel and clutch will and does fit a type 9 gearbox.

Thanks for the offer of the bolts, i will prob be getting the Dunnell sump so ill likely be getting in touch.

My initial thoughts were to use the flywheel and clutch on the crate engine but then i read about the dual mass flywheel on the 2.0l.  Next i thought ok then get the 1.8 flywheel as suggested, however now i am thinking if im going to spend the money on a good gearbox and plan to upgrade the engine further then may as well get a lightweight Dunnell flywheel.

Only problem is the total cost keeps rising!!!!!!

The same was said to me re the flywheel and clutch but the mechanic that looks after my car said there wasn't much difference in weight and unless I was racing and tracking the car as a majority there wasn't much advantage.

Plus he pointed ot that the 2.0l has much more torque than the 1.8l and the clutch would probably wear much quicker as it wasn't designed to take the extra load.
