How to end up with a small fortune.....

You start off with a large fortune and then you think its a good idea to upgrade your Westfield  :bangshead:

Know the feeling Chris! I have been staring at my rolling chassis today, after what started off as a quick Winter Paint Job/ colour change has turned into a body off epic!

Oh well look on the bright side it will look nice for the Summer :D  :D

Know the feeling.....

This winter it's had,

New BGH gearbox, front and rear ARB's, carbon dash, vernier cam pulleys, new reg number and various other little things like spare clutch cable, throttle cable, oils/filters etc.

I knew all about "upgradeitis" from previous cars but the Westy version is just mad... :0

Next winter it's getting a wash and that's it!

Although some lighweight carbon seats might be necessary.... oh and a full cage and............. oh feck it's started again.... :p

Has it been to NMS rollers of truth yet Chris?

Its going on 31st Jan - but mainly to start it up and get the Cams run in, emissions sorted and MoT'd.

A quick 500 miles and then we shall see.

How is your (three) winter rebuild going?  :bangshead:

It really is an amazing disease this upgradeitis thing. In fact I think it's more of an addiction. Maybe we should set up a special WSCC helpline for those who just can't see an end to the madness...  :p I think we all need to address the problem and tackle it head on.

I'll start..........

tell me about it.

I bought my Caterham in 1992. It was 3 years old and 3000 miles.

I fitted a dry sump as the wet one was hitting the roads around my house (peak district). That was it.

Then in 2002 I decided to rebuild. Major attack of upgraditis.

Since then I've spent over £40,000 and there are only a handfull of original/unmodified parts left on the car.

However, I've had as much fun doing all this work (including the complete rebuild after the 2007 accident) as I have driving it.

Now, where's that DT catalouge?

I didn't start off with much money, now I have even less.

Still, it's worth it.

hmm i think that i am likely to develope late onset upgradeitis as i keep getting bits for the car that i know will get through SVA such as a factory dash and then coming out with the comment,

'this is fine and i can always upgrade later'    ???

so ill join you now greg

Jesus...  :0  :0

You could buy a 'real' westfield for alot less than that...  :p  :p  :p  :p  :p

Glad it's not just me :D   At least most of you guys get some mileage out of the upgrades - literally.  As my car is a pure sprint car, although road legal, it probably doesn't do much more than 125 miles per season :0

Pretty much the only bits of my machine that haven't been upgraded are the chassis and some of the body.  However, these are really the only things left where I can save serious weight - race chassis and lightweight body for next winter then :p  :p
