Gadget Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Recently purchased from Aliperry, but does not fit my car as I have my VX engine / Gertrag gearbox set back further than most. Looks like I will have to save up my pennies to have a manifold custom made. 2.5 inch outlet diameter. £199 plus postage.
it_cud Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Hi, Wonder if you can help me. I've a 1990 SE fitted with a screaming 8v vx motor bolted directly onto a 5 speed box. Was told it was a manta ? Could you shine any light on the box identification, as I'd like to get a spare. Starter is on drivers side. Thanks, Mike.
Gadget Posted January 20, 2008 Author Posted January 20, 2008 Hi Mike, My engine is a 16 valve RedTop connected to an Opel Manta box. Not sure on identification marks, I've little experience, but I hope the following photos help.
it_cud Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Hi, That looks like my box. But,what is it ? I believe Mk1 Manta has starter on opposite side ? Is there a Mk 2 Manta ? Do you think this box is fitted to early Cavaliers ? That's where I'm at ! Thanks again for your reply,I really appreciate it. Cheers, mike.
Bronco Jr Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 is it from a narrow or wide? If its a narrow body fitment then I'm interested! Let me know Regards
Gadget Posted January 21, 2008 Author Posted January 21, 2008 Hi Bronco Not sure to which this manifold was orginally fitted, Aliperry (who I bought it from) could probably enlighten you. As you can see from my previous post photo, I took 1.5 inches out of the passenger footwell so I could move the VX/manta box as far back as I could, and unfortunatly the manifold pipes do not fit under the brace bar on the chassis. The whole engine/box is now 4 inches further back than the pinto/type 9 box it replaced. Hope this helps! I do not know where you are (I'm in Lincolnshire) but if you're not too far away we can check your fitment, no obligation.
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Why not simply cut and move the brace bar?
Gadget Posted January 21, 2008 Author Posted January 21, 2008 In reply to John, The bracing bar goes from corner to corner, triangulating the chassis side. I just do not want to affect the structure there as there is no room to add extra bracing that I would be confident would give the same result. Manifold still for sale!!
Bronco Jr Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Hi Gadget, thanks for the offer, having had a think about it - I'll pass. I've got a westfield manifold at the moment which is a bit more abrupt with thr bends but I think I really need a 4-2-1 manifold to get the best from my SBD208 kit. Think yours would be a half way house, probably better to save my pennies and hold out for a manifold thats matched to the injection. Thanks again - good luck with the sale Bronco.
