jak Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Looking for car insurance for my son, 17,provisional licence. Been searching the net and most of the well known names are around 2-2.5 grand, comp or TPFT, which is £100 or so cheaper. The one that keeps coming up cheaper than any other is an outfit called Quinn direct (£950 TPFT or £1500 comp). I have seen some reviews that don't make them look so good, but most are equally as negative about the likes of directline and Churchill, both of whom I have used and had no problems with! As anyone had any personal dealings with Quinn direct? At prices like those quoted to me theres no wonder there are so many youngsters driving without insurance!! And relax! John Quote
Lurksalot Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Just gone down this route myself and (whilst not putting claims in ) I have found Quinn great to deal with , prices are very keen , and they give you a phone number to talk to people . The questions are answered quickly and paperwork arrived next day . So far they'll do for me Quote
natalie Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 hi, i've just got my car insurance at 17. i've found tesco are good if you put a name driver on the insurance. the lowest i have found was about a £1000 which is bout as low as it gets. endsleigh is also supposed to be quite good for young drivers and students. moneysupermarket.com is good to find one. nat Quote
jak Posted January 8, 2008 Author Posted January 8, 2008 OK, looks like Quinn will be getting my money then! Tried Tesco, etc - quoted approx £2K. Thanks John Quote
leighc Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 not really relevant but when I got my BMW at 21, I was quoted £10,000 by someone. its a 318i which is quite probably the slowest car known to man. The difference people charge does make me chuckle. Got it for £600 in the end. I was going to ring the first company and ask them what extra benefits I would get with them by spending an extra £9,400.... Quote

Chris.B Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Just been through this for my 17 year old son, provisional licence, require Fully Comp on my wifes Clio. Best prices for us were: Tesco, Quinn, Ensleigh & Frizzells, with Frizzells being best value for us. Came out at around £1k. Cheers Chris Quote

John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Have you tried that Admiral multi car household insurance. Might work out better for a year or 2 until he has some NCD. Quote
KerryS Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 If Matt had a sex change it might be a bit cheaper, girls can have lower premium than boys That's no help then Quote
slippy Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Could always insure the car in your name then let the youth go named driver on the policy, provided you use a company that allow named drivers to build up there own NC bonus it vould be the cheaper option It's what I did on my mams Cinquento Sporting Good handling little car that Quote
tommie Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 LOL I had a seiecento sporting!! Full blown go kart there Quote
