SwissWesty Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 Hi all, i hope you all had a fine christmas time Cos my bell housing is broken and badly repaired i want to fit a new (old) one, i.e a bell housing from the scrap. BTW if i could fit a lighter one, that would be fine. Anybody knows if a standard alloy Ford bell housing, e.g Escort RS2000, Sierra Cossy, or other will fit to a 1600 CVH engine and a T9 gearbox, and if so, which one ? Any advice is very welcome. I wish all a very happy year 2008. Quote
stu999 Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 *I think* a standard bellhousing is just that - a standard bellhousing. Until recently, all Ford bellhousing to engine bolt patterns are the same. The only difference to bear in mind are V6 variants Quote
StuartMackay Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Escort RS2000 (£80-100 from ebay) might need mods to fit a narrow tunnel and the diaphragm plate to suit though, better is to use bespoke Ford to T9 from the like of Burtons/ Rally Design/ BGH (£200 approx). Cosworth uses a different T5 box and flywheel so bolts spacing may be different IIRC. Seems like a bargain! Quote
langy Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 RS2000 bellhousing seem to be fetching £130 at the moment. I have spoken to a few people and a company called A Frame Engineering tel: 01282 690184 do direct replacements for £140 + VAT + P&P they also sell the RS2000 one for £130 + VAT. Tiger also sell them. HTH Quote
SwissWesty Posted January 2, 2008 Author Posted January 2, 2008 Hi all, i have looked at the mentioned sites, they all have very nice alloy bell housings, ... but for RHD cars, mine is LHD, so starter and clutch arm are on the wrong side, sigh... Quote
langy Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 but for RHD cars, mine is LHD, so starter and clutch arm are on the wrong side, sigh... Doesn't the RS2000 housing have the option of left or right hand starter That should do the trick. Quote

SwissWesty Posted January 3, 2008 Author Posted January 3, 2008 Hi, yes that should work, if dimensions are same as the Sierra bellhousing. Will look if i find some used here for an affordable price, cos shipping cost from GB often are higher then item prices. Thanks for the tip. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 The Sierra and RS2000 bell housings are interchangable with regards to size. However, using the RS2000 bellhousing can also require using the RS2000 clutch arm to match the bellhousing or modify a Sierra one to suit. You may also need to make a bracket to anchor the outer sleeve of your clutch cable. This is normally done by making a small plate to bridge the redundant starter motor aperature. The weight saving is huge though so is well worth all the effort. John Quote
SwissWesty Posted January 5, 2008 Author Posted January 5, 2008 Hi John, thanks for the info, i thought that's the way to modify the bell housing. Can you explain what's the difference between an RS2000 clutch arm and a standard one ? My clutch arm looks like this one on a picture from Burtons Webshop. BTW, cos the clutch cable has a short life ,: it could be interesting to fit a hydraulic system. Anybody did it on CVH engine and T9 gearbox ? Quote

SwissWesty Posted January 9, 2008 Author Posted January 9, 2008 Hi, thanks StuartMackay for looking @eBay for my interests Jenko @Jan. 09 2008 QUOTE No overseas bidders....so give us a shout if you need anyone to bid and send it to you..... Jenko, thank you for your offer to help me purchasing this item. At this point i will go for a new one, i have contacted Mick@Aframe Engineering, thank you langy , they sell RS2000 bell housing for £ 130, + £10 for an adaptor plate for the clutch cable. Concerning the clutch arm i did a search here and find the answer to my question on older Topics HERE and HERE, i.e. the part number for the RS2000 clutch arm (which don't matches to my own one). The RS2000 arm is normally available for SFr. 50.- ( ~ £ 23) at my local Friendly Ford Dealer. QUOTE Not sure what you mean (swiss) by the cable not lasting! Up to now done ~ 65000 Km ( 40000 miles) and changed the (each time broken far away from home ) clutch cable 2 x. That's what i call a short life. Cheers Quote
pete g Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 you must have a adjustment problem to keep braking them. had a similar problem myself a few years ago. i changed the clutch arm for a different model[diff throw] and it cured the problem. Quote
SwissWesty Posted January 13, 2008 Author Posted January 13, 2008 Hi, my cable always brakes at the same point, where the cable turns into a "fungus" on the clutch arm side. I guess there is not enough free movement for the cable end in the clutch arm hole, so cable is weakened by bending movement and finally brakes. The clutch arm fitted on my car is very similar to the RS2000 fork, (stamped number 71BB7541 is same, apart the letters KA instead of GA on the end), and attachment points for the cable are the same too. Meanwhile i received my RS2000 fork and even the dimensions are pretty the same, only the shape of the "original" fork is narrower on the cable side. Now as clutch assembly is on my work bench i will look to modify the cable attachement point on the fork to give more free movement. BTW, as i don't know if my car has been correctly assembled (it's not a factory build car), do i need a spacer or a special clutch bearing for my clutch assembly T9 to CVH engine (similar to the one Westfield offers for Zetec to MT75 on the store) ? I asked this Westfields store too (trying together to place a small order) by email, but they are actually ignoring me. Cheers Quote
