galois Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Hi Picked up my new Westfield before Christmas and noticed today that the gear lever knob is loose. It is just placed on top of the stick itself. Should I be concerned? Should I replace it with a tighter fit? Should I just wind some string round the top of the lever and bodge the top on? Thanks Quote
Stuart Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Mine comes loose occasionally but is held in place by 3 grub screws at the bottom. Tighten these back up and it's fine again, Quote
pistonbroke Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 On mine there is a ring at the bottom of the knob ( Oo err) which you have to unscrew to get at the 3 grub screws , use an allen key tighten them up . Quote
galois Posted December 30, 2007 Author Posted December 30, 2007 Thanks - will check this morning. Quote
StuartMackay Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Mine would continually come loose (especially on trackdays) until I made a tight fitting thin wall tube with a split along its length fitted over the top of the lever shaft and sized to be a close fit with the internal diameter of the knob. The problem is that the three grubscrews are right at the the end of their threads when tightened due to the overly large diameter difference between shaft and knob!! I tried PVC tape initially but this wasnt the best solution, hence the proper job with metal tube. Quote
wiz 1 Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Had this problem with a new momo gear knob. Once the car was warmed up the screws loosened up. Just used some loctite on the threads problem sorted. Quote
