I've looked and spoken to others on this - looks like iTunes is it  for Ipods - I stand to be corrected but I can't find away around it.

having said that...

I've got around my "streamium" problem ( which turned out not ot be Itunes fault, but the Phillips software haivng a known issue with large media libaries  :(  ) and iTunes does actually seem to work ok .

If it's mainly for home use why not consider something like This? I've got a squeezebox and it's the best gadget I've ever bought (and I am a sucker for gadgets). Streams most audio formats straight from your PC via ethernet or Wireless LAN and outputs both analogue and digital audio to your amp.

It will also play losless WAV and FLAC formats if you want better quality than MP3. Using such formats it's as good as my Arcam CD player. You can browse your collection using remote control from your armchair.

Interesting device Kevin, its big brother the "transporter" looks cool too -and not a silly price for what peole say about it, given the £/$.

I've a Phillips Streamium which I bought because it was in a damaged box with no software or instructions at PC world - got it for about £30 . It will only stream Mp3 but its a good fun device, useful if you want to set up an evenings background music or put a bit of Ravi on when you've an Indian takeway.

Hammy I've always wondered about mp3 over CD quality, I understand the format mp3/itunes etc but you've cleared a lot of my curiosity up thats for sure, interesting thread and I've actually learnt something!

At the end of day there is a lot of snobbery on Hi-fi and the important think is being happy with what you are listening too- if you are that's all that matters, and stay away from the "mines bigger than yours" games

And common sence prevals well said Hammy music is like food whats good for the goose etc
