Hay chaps and chappesse, I have booked into my first track day down at Llandow in September.  Now I need to sort our my car ready for then, I would like a RAC roll bar for safety, and some slicks, I figured on some old rs turbo 4 spoke wheels for the slicks.

Where can I get one of the RAC bars that had attachable struts.  I have seen some that have bars that attach to the role bar and run down into the boot, this is the sort I would like I think it loos stronger.

Don’t know if the westy factory sells them, they have a RAC bar advertised, but I don’t know if it has the extra bars.

Where can I get these form?  Cheers

P.s My car is having the electrics sorted by a very cool chap who races radicals :)J then its on to his mate to check all the mechanic ready for my day J  just goto rent a trailer (or find a cheep one)

OOO me and Mrs flap are all excited

They are from the Factory, and they are good value. Just ask for an RAC bar with removable rear stays, and one will be despatched.

Buying is much simpler than fitting, especially if you have a boot box.............

Catflap, out of curiousity, why are you thinking of using slicks for your first track day ??

Are you sure your engine's oil system is up to the extra cornering forces generated by them ?

I agree with you Nick - for your first track day use road (ish) tyres and see how the car stands up - slicks can induce many increased forces  ;)  :).

Llandow is a good little track  ;)  :)  :D

Thanx for the advice :)

I am having the car checked over by a lecyc man as we speak, and next week its of to a guy who prepares and races busa powered radicals, he is checking the engine and other bits to make sure its ok for  my track day.

I honestly don’t think I am going to be fast, but just want to have a go.

First rule of track days = there are no prizes for how fast you go or penalties for just tootling round at your own pace.

Just enjoy it and drive at a pace you're comfortable with and have fun learning what the car, and driver, are capable of  :)

Once you've got the hang of things you'll naturally want to go a bit quicker and maybe that would be the time to try slicks and other bits and pieces.  But just take it easy on your first event.  If instruction is available then this can be really useful.

Silverstone next week will be my first track day for about a year and I have no qualms about just trucking round at my own pace until I'm happy going a bit quicker.

Just keep an eye on your mirrors for quicker cars and you'll be fine  :)

Hi Flappers

What date is that, and who's organising?

Its only 30minutes away so at the very least I reckon I might come along and watch the fun!

Better get your order into the factory quick... mine took over 10 weeks to be fabricated, powder coated and dispatched.  They were waiting for the correct grade of tube to come in.

You might be lucky and find that they have 20 in stock or something now though!   :)

Good luck,

Jon

Hmm, that's interesting. I got mine within 2 weeks of ordering. It has got the odd scar on the powder coat though. I wonder if it was one they had "lying around"?

Still it's (mostly) fitted now, so I'm not complaining.

Oh, and the Silverstone trackday is organised by BookaTrack and is on Wednesday. I'll be there in a passenger-ride-blagging capability.

Hi catflap

Still waiting for my r.road/mapping session so not in a position to "give it welly" at the moment!

But I reckon it looks like it could be fun to spectate.

I'm in Marshfield (t'other side of Cardiff).

What were you doing in Neath..........trying to find the way out??

Grew up there :) (unfortunately ;))  but moved to stoke-on-trent

COME BACK NEATH ALL IS FORGIVEN

I spend a lot of time in Cardiff, my mate lives there and I visit him once a month, he is considering building a fire blade locost/westy type thing

CatFlap.

IMHO Dont go Slicks for your first trackday. In fact go for tyres with less rather than more grip. Firstly you will have far more fun at lower speeds and will therefore not break your new toy. Secondly you will get to learn rear wheel drive recovery much better. And thirdly the tyres will break much more progressively and will make catching it much easier.

As Nick said dont try and be the quickest out on any track you do not know in your car. I always start slow, learn the lines and progressively build up speed throughout the day. This way you should be able to keep your toy together and ill bet you end up quite quick at the end of it.

As for he RAC roll bar. Get the factory one(ensure you order the spacers for the bottom of the rear struts. (mine took a week). And dont forget that you will need a boot cover as its a nightmare to refit the boot box. Paul at PlaysKoool does a very nice Carbon Jobby.

Hi Catflap

Well somebody had to.......!

Actually, some good roads around Neath..!!

If your mate is looking for Bike bits (or anyone else for that matter) he should see my mate - Gareth at Genius Motorcycles, just off Newport Road. Loads of stuff at good prices, and he knows what he's talking about too (unlike me!;).

We'll have to meet sometime!

Cheers

Good advice Stuart C, ill take it :) ill stick with the road rubber i have.

chrisbin, I was back home a few weeks ago, I drove from stoke to neath via breckon, OH MYGAWD the weather down was stunning and the roads are simply stunning, I used to do them on my CBR400, and I have goto say I felt quicker in the westy, and I haven’t blasted them for a few years.

if you come along to the track day let me know as my mate will be attending as well, we call him simon, well coz its his name, and he tends to answer to it,     sometimes ;)
