JonnyBoy Posted August 1, 2002 Posted August 1, 2002 my yr2000 Q-plate pre 95 1800zetec is coming up for MOT again in 08/02 (too many numbers arrg) last year the mot station adjusted the carbs to make it pass the emmisions requirements. a little annoying considering it had been on the rollers a couple of weeks before. can anyone shead some light on the emmisions i need to meet, any any suggestions as to where i can obtain the appropriate legal literature just to make sure i am passing the right emmisions levels. thanks Quote
Blatman Posted August 1, 2002 Posted August 1, 2002 Q plate car needs only to meet a visible smoke requirement. That means that if there is no smoke from the exhaust at hot tickover, it's a pass, regardless of the engine age...........and assuming there are no SVA emissions requirements on the log book. If no-one does it before me, I'll post up a link, or the actual regulations........................ Quote
JonnyBoy Posted August 1, 2002 Author Posted August 1, 2002 a 4 minute response...i'm impressed! Quote
Blatman Posted August 1, 2002 Posted August 1, 2002 4 minutes = a double lapper at Curborough for me............ Quote
Westfieldman Posted August 1, 2002 Posted August 1, 2002 I belive it is amature [spelling] built cars not Q but most Q's are amature built, as Arnie makes coment on K2rum getting through on said piont. Paul. Quote
Blatman Posted August 2, 2002 Posted August 2, 2002 c******m distinguish kit from factory built cars by them having an identifying letter (K) placed in the chassis number. I don't know if Westield distinguish their factory built from kit built chassis in this way. It'll say on the log book too, but I 'll bet the MOT man doesn't know, and he's bound to ask if you built it yourself............ FWIW, my green car is on an old R reg, but the log book still says "Rebuilt, made from parts". Sounds like the description of a kit car to me............... Quote
chrisbin Posted August 2, 2002 Posted August 2, 2002 Hi Jonny Tried DOT but all they helpfully say is that the testing information is not available. But there is a Q&A section which might be worth trying, but to be honest didn't look that brilliant: http://www.doeni.gov.uk/dvta/prepare.htm Or you can try: http://www.bobmckay.co.uk/emission.html I reckon you need to find a friendly tester/test station and have a chat and hopefully get a sight of some official document(s). Good Luck! Quote
brianm Posted August 2, 2002 Posted August 2, 2002 The MOT manual quite clearly states that Q plated cars are subjected to visible smoke test only. Shown to me in the manual by my "new" MOT man last year. The guy before him, ex grasstracker etc, knew his stuff and always applied this rule, but I had to point it out to this guy, who promptly pulled it in the book, much to his suprise i must admit. He openly admitted that he'd wrongly tested previous Q's based on what he'd just read, testing them on year of registration! Brian. Quote
JonnyBoy Posted August 3, 2002 Author Posted August 3, 2002 thanks for the info guys. best bet is to ask to look in the book 'with him' i guess. hmm. how to go about doing that without seeming pedantic (who knows if this is the right word, or correct spelling but it sounds good) Quote
