I have added my name to the list following my previous post.

Just had a look at the link and Carbon Mods website and I presume the bulk buy is for stone guards without the polymer as used in the Carbon Fibre Polymer Stone-chip Guards (Product SKU: MSCGWFLD01)?

Is it possible to have the bulk buy stoneguards made with the chip resistant polymer as well?

I don't see the point if we don't have chip resistant polymer after all they are stone guards

Hi all,

Regarding the polymer, the stone-chip guards in question are not made from the undestructable polymer that we make our alternative stone-chip guards from.  These are quite a different product and it is for customers to decide what is important to them.

As stated on the site, these moulded stone chip guards are made from 100% pre-preg carbon fibre, as such they are incredibly strong and light, flawless in finish but not 100% resistant to stone chips.

The polymer we use for our other type of stone chip guards is a complete Carbon Mods one-off.  We have two different polymers blended and then combine them with a layer of carbon fabric to make a rubbery flat sheet, very similar to the material we make carbon mudflaps out of (so imagine a material with similar properties as a mud flap).

There would be no way to mould the polymer into a complex shape like the stone-chip guards as it starts off like runny glue and then sort of congeils as it cures!!

The pre-preg stone-chip guards are intended as a direct replacement for the not so great looking OEM ABS versions. They could chip but being made of pre-preg and having no gel-coat (even though they are high gloss) they are pretty resistant.  We do have a pair of sample wings that anyone who's visited Carbon Towers will have seen us bashing with a large hammer by means of a demonstration.

At the end of the day, it is up to customers to decide what is important to them.  In the most part, carbon fibre is decadence in the extreme anyway so stone chip guards is just flaunting it!

If you're looking for something that will provide complete protection against stone chips but don't mind not having the look of these guards then stick with the ABS or go with the polymer.

All the best, Matt

Fair enough explaination Matt....I'm still in  :t-up:

I wouldn't mind some front wings as well...how's the discount looking

I did wonder if there was a technical reason why they didn't include the polymer. Thanks for the explanation and i'm still in the bulk buy.

I think it was clear from the off set what we would be getting so might be easier if those not up for the BB would speak up and not have 30 plus saying im in. :p
