RobK Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 We are rebuilding a head for fitting back onto our Turbo'd Pinto engine once the other bits are back on the chassis. Sorry for the picture quality! Is this damaged enough to want new followers? The head is not having any major work just the valves grinding in and a crane scavange cam fitting. Any help appreciated Quote

kipford Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Absolutely essential, use followers specified by supplier. Pinto geometry is evil and will eat a cams and followers for breakfast. When you fit the cam, use plenty of oil, cam lube on the lobes and followers. Only turn the engine over by hand sufficient to get the followers in, set and the timing done. DO NOT turn the engine over on the starter. When ready to start. take out dizzy and spin the pump to get the oil pressure up using an extended 6 mm hex socket in an electric drill. Finally cover lobes and followers again with buckets of cam lube. Rocker cover on. fire engine up, do not let it idle at all take it straight to around 2.2K rpm and leave it there for 20 minutes. This was advised to me by Vulcan. Quote
