Crazy Eddie Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Firstly I'm sorry about the completely random question for a car club but seeing as there is such a mix of helpful people on here it looks like my best shot! I'm looking at buying the wife a Piano and lessons for Xmas and have no idea what I'm looking at! Digital looks the way forward because I don't have a lot of space (the Westie sees to that!) and I don't want to take out a mortgage to buy it! So I have found this: Piano What do you think? Also what should I look for in a teacher? Do they have grades like I have or just go with anyone? Cheers for anticipated help. (I don't want to buy a sack of s***e ) Eddie Quote
Mark Stanton Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 QUOTE I'm looking at buying the wife a Piano and lessons for Xmas and have no idea what I'm looking at! Look for a long line of black and white keys with the word steinway above em QUOTE Also what should I look for in a teacher? Large breasts, long legs and either blonde or brunette hair (IMHO) Quote

JeffC Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Also what should I look for in a teacher? get someone like Stella "im a cuming" HaMegameret from Lemon posicle bet your too young to have seen that and that will make me sound old again Quote
Mark Stanton Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 JeffC - Lemon Popsicle - how old are you trying to drown a dose of crabs in swimming pool was a good joke Quote
JeffC Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 not that old , my pals father had a collection of them just watched them again on google video Quote
V8grunt Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 If your after a piece of furniture and an instrument that would be OK. I personally would look at a top line 2 year old electronic key board with all singing and dancing gadgets on board. Quote
Crazy Eddie Posted December 3, 2007 Author Posted December 3, 2007 Large breasts, long legs and either blonde or brunette hair (IMHO) That actually sounds like me!!! (I think I need to do some more press ups!!) As for V8 Grunt: Is that the voice of experience because at first I thought it was just a Keyboard in a big funky stand but as I understand it (limited I know) digital pianos are not just big Keyboards or have I got it wrong? b****y hell I new I should have just gone for Chocolates!!!! Lurksalot Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Try somewhere like dawsons , they have a good selection of pianos ,keyboards and the like and normally the staff are quite good at demonstrating and give good advice . I wouldn't do ebay for this sort of stuff . unless youve seen the thing in a showroom and like it . But if a showroom has invested in the stock and sales expertise then it may be a better option to negotiate a sale with them. Quote
jago Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 wheres les dawson when you need him with my hearing always in tune Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 My Aunty Mary was a Piano Teacher.................................. But she died in 1960 Quote
DavidR Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Also what should I look for in a teacher? Large breasts, long legs and either blonde or brunette hair (IMHO) Mark has the right principle but a few details need adjusting IMHO . . . Your wife should select the teacher on the basis of someone she thinks she can get on with and take advice from, who she thinks will be friendly and helpful. Learning the Piano takes determination and practice and your wife will need a teacher who will motivate, encourage and inspire her, and help her through the tough times. Dull teachers lead to disappointed pupils. My daughter started learning the piano at age 5 and after several competent but uninspiring teachers she found someone who could keep her motivated and now she has a skill for life that brings great pleasure to her and those listening. A great step, good luck to your wife and lots of enjoyment David Quote
V8grunt Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 as for V8 Grunt: Is that the voice of experience because at first I thought it was just a Keyboard in a big funky stand but as I understand it (limited I know) digital pianos are not just big Keyboards or have I got it wrong? My Instrument is the guitar. I was in a band for 15 years and the last 4 we were joined by a key board player, His mother taught Piano at the London school of music, and he was/is good... His real love was the drums so he used to program in to the keyboard brass, strings, etc and play the drums, All I had to do was stand on the "Start" button to set it off. As a four piece we could play anything, for example, "Something happened on the way to heaven" by Genesis, which is very Brassy, thru to "Fields of gold" by Sting, ( strings) His speciality was "toccata" by Sky, we would walk of stage and he would play it on the key board with the drums and bass etc, all programed in (in stereo) that would bring the house down! waynem Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I've got one of these. Just over a grand though.. Fantastic bit of kit, much cheaper than a real piano but a darn sight more flexible (and lighter and compact). While she is learning you will be glad it has a headphone socket.... Wayne M Quote
