Replacing Sierra DOHC Engine

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am still searching for that pefect Westfield.!!!

I am considering an SEiW but it has currently got a Sierra 2.0 DOHC lump in it. Ideally I would like to replace this with a beefed up (Dunnel Zetec 2.0) or equivalent. I would be looking for somebody to do this transplant for me but are there any other considerations ie: gearbox, diff and what would the approx cost be to do it right ?

If anybody knows of a suitable person to do this, please advise - Midlands

Any assistance is greatly appreciated

Cheers

Unfortunately that engine is different in block and exhaust to pretty much any other engine so engine mounts and exhaust manifold (hole in bodywork) will need to be changed.  On the plus side the gearbox should be a standard ford pattern. If it has carbs or throttle bodies these can be swapped to the new engine, otherwise it you'll have to buy some.  It's not impossible but it won't be cheap.  Unless the rest of the car has loads of really trick bits - brakes, gearbox, suspension etc I'd keep looking as it might well be more cost effective.

Thanks for the comments, the spec is limited but as follows:

2.0 Litre Sierra DOHC engine.

Immobiliser.

Spax Shocks.

Westfield alloys in good condition.

Disc brakes all round.

Westfield stainless steel manifold and silencer.

Black sports seats from Lotus Elise.

Standard Westfield rollbar.

Willans black 4 point harnesses.

Front AeroScreen.

Carbon fibre dash.

unless its a bargain or you are happy to keep the engine, I'd keep looking as this is the time of year to pick up a bargain.

Just looked at that one myself  on PH it was on ebay last week but didn,t meet reserve. Looks a descent car for the price but engine cosmeticaly lets it down slightly , why not go and give it a look over I think its in your area isn,t it, then you can decide if you would spend some decent wedge on the engine

its a cheap car for spec and exhaust is on the left so change to zetec or xe is possible its gonna cost about 4kplus though so theres better cars you could buy 2 on here both with vauxhall 2 litre engines both cracking cars ive seen them both  dont let the age of these cars put you off its more how there looked after.theres also this

Thanks very much for your comments. I did some checking yesterday and to get the right engine is between 3.5 - 4.5K + Westfield bits'n'pieces at about £600 + fitting ......not a very economical option !!

Better to hold on and wait for the Right engined car to come along

Coverting to another engine will never be cheap

That engine was actually quite good, but only that.

A right oddball not supported in any way for upgrades/ mods etc.....

Biggest problem would have been building the car with that engine in the first place.

I keep smelling r*bb*ng *ood when I read this

Get a proper one. IMHO of course ;)
