I am not into football at all, infact my wife is more so! At the start of the game she told me that players like Beckham  were not playing and the Goal keeper was very inexperienced, play one game at a lower level or something. I said whats the manager thinking off, she said apparently that if England do not win he losses his job. My reply was so he wants to leave then? Either the guy is completely stupid or he really wanted to leave and this provided a method without penalty?

Neil, I know a few footballers and they're not all as bright as the salaries suggest. Sometimes they need a bollocking and sometimes they need a cuddle but they always need motivating. The good managers know just when to deliver each and in the right measures.

I've employed very highly paid and, supposedly intelligent, people who needed motivating.

Self motivation has nothing to do with the job in hand or the pay level.
