Phoenix Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Hi guys, Am looking into getting my first westfield and came across a 1998 factory built SeiW on pistonheads, it was advertised as being a 2-litre Zetec with a CVH head, when asking about it i was told it produces 118BHP which seemed to me for a 2-litre Zetec to be a little low?? What sort of 0-60 times will you get with 118 bhp on a westfield and what mods can be done? Would for example changing the head for a zetec top end improve the engine? And generally any information on this sort of hybrid?? Sorry if this has been talked about before I have done a few searches but nothing that really makes me understand it all. Quote
oioi Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I could be talking out my ar5e here but i thought the zetec head was put ona cvh block - giving a 16valve cvh. Try a search on here for zvh (as i think its known). its not an uncommon conversion. Quote
oioi Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 looks like i was A*** about t*t and you were right. have a read here as a starter for ten Quote
Kevin Wood Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 It sounds an odd specification of engine for a factory build. The factory generally put standard Ford engines in their builds so I would be checking to see if the spec. has been changed in which case a factory built car has slightly less appeal, IMHO. I'm sure someone (or the factory) could confirm if this was a spec. that was available as factory standard. If not, I would be looking to find out who did the conversion. I have heard of hybrid engines being built in this way, normally to take advantage of the stronger and bigger displacement Zetec bottom end on CVH Turbo cars. I believe Ferriday engineering do these conversions so maybe worth a call to him to see what you should look out for. I'd say it's always a little more risky going for something like this than a standard engine as it will be built from bits and pieces from all over the place. If you need spares in future it will be less easy to identify them. Having said that, you could always drop a standard CVH or Zetec in... 118 BHP won't set the world alight but for a first Westfield it will be plenty quick enough. 0-60 times will depend on the gearing and weight, and is probably not a good indicator of overall performance but I'd say it would probably give you around the 6 seconds mark. Run around in that for a while and if you hanker for more speed it's not too difficult to upgrade. Standard Zetec engine on carbs will give you around 150-165 BHP. I'd go and have a look at it, take someone along from here to give a second opinion, have a drive and see what you think. Kevin Quote
Bean Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I looked into the ZVH, Zetec block and CVH head but after reading up it didn't seem worth. Slippy made me fit a redtop instead, turned out to be a much better idea. Quote
RichB Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I think the usual reason for doing a ZVH is so you can turbo it easily using CVH turbo manifolds etc, as there wasn't an 'off-the-shelf' Zetec turbo. Quote
Jenko Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 The other reason for going ZVH is to keep all the existing manifolds / exhaust system, etc....... 118bhp, must be at the wheels.......a 2ltr bottom end using a CVH head should give around 140 bhp...with some head work (flowing and cam), you should see 155 - 160.....This is what I have :-) Carbs need to be jetted correctly for this though. The CVH head is very simple in design, light (ish), has decent sized valves as standard, gives good torque - mine makes 145ft/lb at 3200rpm......with the tuning work should stick with standard 2ltr zetecs, but obviously you can then go and tune up the zetecs....... Don't buy it thinking you can simply slap on a zetec head....you will need different water pump layout, alternator, exhaust system, inlet manifold, carb rejetting, etc, etc......it will cost a fortune...... I would suggest trying before you buy.....at the right price the ZVH engine is actually a good engine. Having spent the whole of last winter building one, I can give you advice if you want to PM me........ Cheers. Paul. Quote
markcoopers Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 If this is a blue one, it has been advitised a few times in quick sucsession, as a 1.8 Zetec, a 2.0 zetec and as a hybrid. Car does not stack up, walk away.... Quote
