RichP Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Hi all I'm thinking of buying a skidpan training session for the GF for Christmas. Not a judgement on her driving (her daily drive is a self-built 2.5L V6 GTM Libra) - she's mentioned wanting to to it some time! Can anyone recommend anywhere not too far from Northampton? There are a few advertising on the web but I'd prefer to go with a recommendation. Cheers Richard Quote
smegablade Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 As part of the Northampton IAM we have held days for members at this place Skid Pan and all the reports back have been very positive. Havn't experienced it myself but we used to use the one at Tempsford operated by plod and this one gets much better reports Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I went to one organised by Staffordshire IAM - b****y great and cheap - would like to do another one Quote
Fangio2 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Most circuits do skid training. Have you tried Silverstone? Quote
DanB Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I wouldn't recommend Rockingham. I booked a skid pan day there a couple of months ago for 4 people, some of whom were flying into the country for it and had booked flights to be there. A month before the day it was booked for they cancelled it due to 'unforeseen circumstances' (they refused to be more specific on the phone), offered us another day which was earlier than the one we'd booked (which obviously we couldn't do, as otherwise we'd have booked that day), and when we said we couldn't do that day they said they'd give us a gift voucher valid for 6 months. Which would be fine, except they don't run any skid pan days over the middle of the winter... Quote
windy Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Where I work. Millbrook Proving Ground is only a stones throw from Northants. You get a proper go in a cradle car (Omega V6 or Astra) for about £50 I think. Ex beds police instructor Andy Wesley does it - very nice chap. You might even get a track tour if you are lucky If you get a group of 3 people together you can have the car to yourselves for the afternoon. http://www.bedspolicepartnership.org/gaps-txt.htm You want the practical skid control course Hope this helps Quote
bhouse Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 I booked my daughter onto the Andy Wesley course at Millbrook and it was very good indeed. He concentrates on preventing skids in the first place rather than how to control them. Excellent driver education, but not ideal if you just want to hoon around! Brian Quote
