Zetec Altenator mounting..

a simple clarification needed....

I have a 2.0 Blacktop Zetec and havent yet got around to mounting the altenator. I have in my possession the Raceline mounting kit and also Westfields own, along with a WF supplied altenator.

I've offered these up to the block, but cannot seem to make sense of the mounting. Could someone clarify that the lower mount (which the altenator hinges on) is mounted directly to the block (I think there are 4 bolt holes just above the oil filter)?

Also, does the adjuster mount directly onto the block? Y'see, my Engine was sourced from a Focus which had powersteering/aircon etc. Ford surrounded the block with 6 inch thick ally armour plating to mount these things, so I ripped that all of the get the block looking more svelt...

If the armour plating is needed I may be lucky to find them in a dark corner of the garage, or I may be unluck and they have found their way to the tip..

p.s. Heres a picture of the armour plating, which has to be removed to fit the waterpump idler pulley iirfc..

Thanks for that!

Just been prodding around and my problem is now clear...

The WF mount is obviously for a silvertop, which has a different pattern of mounting holes (the 4 above the oil filter) than a blacktop. Also, the adjuster boss is fouled by a big chunk of ally at the front of the engine. This could be ground away.. maybe... but I don't like drilling holes in engines..

As for the Raceline one, the mounts fit the engine block (sort of, although I seem to be missing some reducing bushes and a bit more grinding of the block) but doesn't seem to fit my altenator..

So, new altenator, or maybe Westfield do an altenator mount for a blacktop ??

I'm gonna document this when its solved.. Such a piddling little thing to mount an altenator, but this choice of engine causes issues at every turn.. Wish I had the skill and time to fabricate my own stuff...

Just had the same problems I ended up binning the Westfield bracket and fitted the Raceline bracket instead (It is ALOT nicer) I then orderd the Race line alternator and it fits straight on Typical of Racelines bits Not cheap but it fits first time :t-up:

Westfield are selling Zetec R alternator mounting kits for £170 quid !!

I assume this includes more than just a bracket!! An email has been sent to them..

I have a Raceline bracket  which I got several years ago, but I think I may be missing some fittings. Any chance you have some pics ? The adjuster and bracket which bolts to the end of the inlet manifold are fine, but I think I may be missing some bushes for the lower mount...

I assume the Raceline supplied alternator has the Poly-V pulley already fitted ?

I have a Westfield alternator, but may need the new mounting kit. At least I can sell on the  old one and cushion the blow..

As for the Raceline option, if I need a different altenator (to the WF one) then that gets added on to the bill of £135 for their mounting bracket...

My wife is gonna kill me...  :bangshead:

Phoned Westfield and Raceline this afternoon for some extra info..

The Raceline kit looks great, but I wonder what people have done about the oil pressure sender? The VDO sender for the standard guages is a little chubby, and would sit rather close to the mount.

What have people done to get around this ?

EDIT: I'm a plonker. Ignore stuff about sender.. Getting mixed up betweeen the warning light sender and the gauge sender. All is well with the world.....  :t-up:
