hilux Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 hi Ramblas good, watch for pick pockets all the time Gaudis Familia church is a must see , go up in it Highly recommend (dont laugh) the city bus tour, takes you all the way up at height so you appreciate the city and the neucamp does tours Harbour to rear then l/h side of Ramblas is cheaper, r/h side has some of the most expensive restaurants in the world Amazing water fountains set to music is an awesome must see Do NOT wander too far off beaten track. two blocks from tourist areas/smart parts of town is `Beirut` and loads of desperate immigrants, v v dangerous for a tourist (dont ask how I know) Forgot to say that you need to look out for the best fish market you`ll see anywhere IIRC its halfway up Ramblas on l/h side (harbour behind) Ryan Air drops you miles from what they title `Barcelona` Ryan Air actually takes you to Barcelona airport Brill place, enjoy Quote

pistonbroke Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Have butchers at Mont Juich . Try the chair lift up the mount from somewhere near the harbour . The spanish GP and WC bikes used to be run there. It was one of the best but also most dangerous GP tracks in the world , a bit like Monaco but a lot faster . Dont think its been used since the 70's when the racing was stopped due to spectator fatalities Quote
Chris Elworthy Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 An alternative to Ramblas; Port Olimpic / Marina. Loads of great seafood restaurants, boats, then after midnight the bars all get lively - just watch out for the podium dancers enticing you in with offer of free shot, usually means the beer is expensive. Recommended: Baja club There are some good hotels nearby too, but best value / quality is H10 Marina, has an open air pool on 8th floor with great view of the sea, Marina and Gherkin. Don't miss: The Cathedral, Place De Catalunya, Cable Car. Quote
chazpowerslide Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Cafe Zuric on the Plaza de Catalunya does the best coffees in the city and the prices are good, the tapas bars on Passage de Gracia (right hand side as you walk away from El Court Englis) provide good food at a reasonable cost (it's where the locals go to eat) For baugetts Pans and Co takes some beating (Its a national chain and there are several branches in the city) The Jewish and Gothic quaters are interesting, off the beaten track and the shopping is cheaper. The fish market on the right hand side of the Ramblas as you walk towards Port Vell is well worth a look. And............. er............... I've been told the strip clubs at the bottom of the Ramblas can help pass an idle hour or two....................................... Central Bareclona IS SAFE but you need to take the usual precautions as you would in a big city like ensuring you valubles are not on display, you dont flash lots of cash about and you are aware of what's going on around you. Chaz. Quote
