Charles King Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Best game on the 360 is Test Drive Unlimited. What, the handling and steering are just soo unrealistic. Best game out there is Crackdown didn't say it was realistic, just good fun (plenty of replay potential too). Quote

Guest Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Ha ha !! That's brilliant... but that sort of money, and physical space, falls into my 'real car' budget rather than 'crappy winter computer car' one. That said... a pair of those would look great in the living room .... Quote
neilwillis Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I think they look very crude. You could make better yourself. Had to laugh about the throw yourself into the corners comment! Quote
Boomy Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 This is mine, a bit cheaper and called 'playseat' (sorry about the carpet etc - non decorated junk room still!) I fixed the MS wheel to it with bolts and then got an adapter so i could use the MS wheel on the pc too (saves having to unbolt and bolt on another PC wheel) It's quite good actually, if you can be bothered to use it of course.I am just as quick on Forza 2 with a pad as i am with a wheel but it helps to use a wheel in games like rfactor etc. As for Forza 2, i find it the most boring game in the word IF you have ANY assists on - you know, traction control, ABS, stability, racing lines etc etc. They kill it stone dead for me and i have never used any.Taking a tuned up TVR speed 12 etc round a course and trying to tame it takes a lot of hard work I doubt you would beat many lap records in vehicles like that if you are used to using assists! With any of them on it feels pants to me - just another arcade feeling racer. The game is certainly realistic enough with them all off, in the sense that the hundreds of online games i have had with pistonhead chaps has lead to races being won or lost by thousandths of a second etc. Also lap after lap of swapping positions with someone who has a similar skill level to your own is heart pounding stuff. One silly mistake will cost you the race in those situations- a wheel on the gravel, a lock up of brakes, a too early downshift (which can damage the car) etc etc, superb stuff! It does still have a bit of that "safe" feeling to it all though.R factor etc will punish you more for being a bit of a driving noob or making mistakes (if you have all the cruddy assists off). Oh, their is also a money glitch for Forza 2 if anyone wants it.Just a quick way of boosting your cash As for rfact/gtr etc etc, they are all great games but rfactor stands head and shoulders above the rest for two reasons in my case.Firstly, people have hacked it all and you can add all the GTR/GTR2 cars, RACE cars and GTLegends cars to it anyway (and the tracks) and secondly, it has a billion addons, many of which are as good as you will find in any store. GPL was and is still an amazing experience, i mean, years after its release the fan base has transformed the look of it and brought it bang up to date - but some of the addons for rfactor easily compare to that now. TDU is nice in the open road sense of things, but it's about as realistic as the new sega rally game sadly Still a good game mind. The entire island is free for you to blat about on - i did most of my maniac blatting in a Caterham Quote
pistonbroke Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 GPL is the only racing simm afaic Downside is you wont learn to drive it overnight , It took me an age to learn how to control the cars with all the driver aids turned off . Having said that, there is now a 65 and 69 mod which simulate the cars of those era's and are much easier to drive than the original 1967 cars though still hard enough to present a challenge. 1965 F1 was for 1.5 litre engines therefore less power so easier to control while 69 F1 used "wings" to add downforce the original GPL modled the 67 F1 season , considered by many to be the Golden Era of Grand Prix racing, it was the final year of "proper " racing, when the race driver was a big chunk of a cars performance GPL is supported by a bunch of real enthusiasts who's special talents have kept the simm up to date . There are loads of online racing leagues which very well organised . R factor has better graphics , but its let down by the car physics which are unrealistic IMO Oh! and did I forget to mention , you can download GPL for free Quote
Boomy Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 This may interest you Mr broken Piston http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=1955%20F1 Another rfactor addon that is being worked on.They are making a lot of effort with this! As for not learning to drive sims overnight, some of the addons for Rfactor are exactly the same imho. The basic rfactor game with the handful of cars you get is rather boring imho, it's the proper open seaters, caterham mods, F1 cars, V8s, group B's etc etc that really make it come alive.Try and drive one of the superb F1 addons for example with traction control off...it's just impossible GPL was way ahead of its time though and is still a benchmark used by many.I purchased the original many years ago and i remember firing up the Ferrari and cranking up my amp.Oh my! I called a mate, held the phone near the speaker, said "listen to this" and within 20 mins he turned up and was as excited as i was Quote
Charles King Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Anybody tried one of these for added realism? GameRacer Tried one at the international kart show a couple of years ago. Then went home and made one for about £20. Sold it last year when I gave up race sims. Quote
Richgm Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I still want one of these. Until then I'm stuck with my old MS sidwinder. Quote
Guest Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 can`t believe the legendary Colin McRae rally hasn`t had a mention yet !! I`m getting into version 4 at the minute (PCformat) with logitech G25 wheel setup , pretty good once you`ve got it set up. Have you tried Richard Burs Rally? It just about the hardest rally sim around. Drives me up the b****y wall sometimes, but get it right and its a good feeling! Ace with a logitech G25 and only £5 to buy now. Quote

Whats the G25 Like? I'd like one but don't know if it's worth the Money. Quote

Quality piece of kit, nicely made, good force feedback, makes a race sim much more enjoyable. Bought mine from pixmania. Quote
