The time is due that the fruit of ones loins approaches the wise old age of 17, thus imposing the scariest insurance hunt .

Does anyone have any recent pricing experience of insurance for driving virgins and what sort of costs can I expect driving a 1.1 Ka ?

many thanks

My son is 17, the KA is one of the cheapest @ £ 1350!!!

Interestingly, for the female of the species, same age same car it is £750. Also it makes little difference whether it's T.P.T.F. or comprehensive, approx £50extra.

BTW, I tried the route of doing the policy in my name and son as a named driver, same price as for him - £400 for me(zero NCB). Oh, and £500 compulsory excess on either policy.

My daughter is 8 months old so I guess I have a while to choose  :D

However, a lot of my students have found the following useful as they are all the companies that offer a discount with The Pass Pluss Scheme for new drivers and therefore are pretty good for new drivers too.

Please let me know how you get on as I get this question a lot  :t-up:

Happy hunting and if you are going to get him to do Pass Plus it may be worth an ask as to how much the insurance would go down to from each of the above. He should love the KA I used on to teach in for a couple of years and was very easy to learn in  :t-up:

Insured my 17 year old 1 year ago.

Bought him an X-plate Fiesta 1300,

To insure it in his name cheapest was around £1400 (TPF&T) and as he was under 18 no monthly credit agreement available.

Ended up insuring it in my name (using the NCB from me being a named driver on my wife's policy) with him as a named driver, this came to around £850

This was with Direct Line with whom mine and my wife's car are insured. They did not make it easy though!

When he has 1 year under his belt (December) we will go through it all again (and he will have to pay this time).

Let the little sods stand on there own , that's what I say  :sheep:

The only way they will find out the true cost of car ownership

:t-up:

Having said that I do remember buying my daughter her first car , then buying it back from her again when she went to university  :durr:

Cost me a ruddy fortune she did , of coarse she appreciated everything  me and her mum did for her ( i dont think)  :sheep:

We insured my 17 year old daughter, with a provisional license through Tesco last month. Did it fully comp in my wifes name and my daughter as a named driver. Renault Clio Dynamique 16v, 1.2, group 4 insurance £632.00 with a compulsory excess of £600.00 plus an additional excess of £400.00 if my daughter bends it  :(  :(  :(  Will revisit the situation again next year when she has a years experience and has done the Pass Plus.  ???    ???

My son two years ago on 53 plate Polo was £1300 including discount for pass plus. Got it down to £800 ish for second year but with £700 total excess (he was on strict instructions not to bend it!!!!!!!!!!).

I'd definitely put it on a parents name. That's what i did, and my sister is currently doing.

If you're worried about the lack of no claims. You can write to your insurance and ask for proof that you were a named driver and haven't claimed. They will then accept this as no claims... Interesting how direct line advertise the fact 2nd drivers get no claims now, when really everyone does.
