Kit Car Electronics and Essex AO Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Congratulations on placing your order You'll proabably get lots of different opinions on the rack as there is no right or wrong answer. My personal opinion is that I prefer the quick rack. The difference is actually quite pronounced on the road - you can negotiate all roundabouts and bends with about plus or minus 90 degrees steering wheel movement, and the light car means the steering is never too heavy. Only downside is you do have to concentrate more on where you are going, and a heavy sneeze will have you in a ditch Normal rack makes the car feel less manic, but surely manic is what you are after with a Westie? Edited to say Just saw your reply about the wife. Maybe a standard rack would be better. No offence like... Quote
Blatman Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Make sure you get what you pay for! Some Westfield "quick racks" are standard racks that have had their travel artificially restricted with the use of lock stops. They are used to prevent the wings hitting the bodywork, but what you have is a standard rack and the turning circle of an oil tanker... Have a read of this Quote
Darren B Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Go for the quick rack. I have recently converted to one (mainly for racing) but have found that it's much better on the road. I haven't found it to be overly sensitive and having the faster gearing means there is far less twirling required to get around. I bought mine from Rally design and the added bonus of no lock stops means the turning circle is also much reduced (although I do have widetrack suspension to give me a bit more front wheel turning clearance). stu999 Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 You could try here. Or Quaife Worth noting that the second link that Roman has posted will still require you to find a genuine Mk2 Escort steering rack to transfer the new rack and pinion into Quote
