Tigger Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 I've got a Canon MV960 which is a good camera and takes nice vids but it's a pain in the butt for Bullet cam recording, far too fiddly and no remote cable so don't bother with one of these. Get a DV cam with AV in and the facility for a lanc cable (remote) Tiggs Quote
bhouse Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Given the rate at which new cameras are introduced it's almost impossible to give a meaningful recommendation. As a general principle, Sony cameras are well specced, easy to use and (in my experience) offer better after sales support than other manufacturers. Sony AV in is usually easy to set up and use. Agree with the Canon's. I've got a MV730i and there is a lot of cabling to link a bullet cam to camcorder (and it's b****y anoying when you forget one after travelling 100 miles for a trackday ) Works OK though, but it's probably out of date now. WilliamB Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Seems to be a trend that most new and newish DV cams don't appear to have AV IN. You may have to settle for a second hand older camera. It may be worth getting something like a small MPEG4 recorder to use with a bullet camera instead. Quote

Howard Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Also very interested in this. Am I missing something here, but I can’t quite see the need for a bullet cam and separate recorder. I can see the point of a bullet cam if you’re trying to film from the side of your helmet or some awkward spot, but if it’s from the roll-bar (as most people do) then why not use a normal camcorder? Is it a matter of accessibility to the buttons and/or wind noise with an on-camera microphone? I’ve got a digital camcorder but it doesn’t have AV-in, which is apparently necessary for a bullet camera. Therefore I’m faced with either: a) Buying a new camcorder with AV-in (cheapest about £150) and a bullet camera (£100+) b) Buying a media player (various cheap & nasty @ £85, or better Archos 404 @ £130) and bullet cam £100+. c) Mounting my existing camera on the rollbar and hoping for the best. d) Buying another cheapo camcorder and mounting that on the roll-bar and hoping for the best. Curious to know the benefits/pitfalls before parting with my hard-earned. Quote
