Race Technology Dash 2

And I'm going with the westfield one because it's had the brake warning light moved to make sure it's visible enough for the SVA. I also want the easy installation that the WF loom provides. At 10 people, the £488 westfield price is a match for the original bulk buy price once you've added the mandatory buttons.

I can do the buttons for £22 for the IP67 type and the plugs on the loom would cost about a £5 it will take about 20 minutes to make up. To be honest you can fit any buttons you like from as little as 50p each. If we could get 10 on the group buy we might be able to get another £25 off the price.

BTW anyone wanting the dash2 and dl1, there is a bundle price of £800 + Vat for a 1 off available.

Thanks

Ok guys, heres your chance to bag another person on either bulk-buy ;) , I just have some concerns/questions that need to be answered.

1. I'm doing a new build so have no senders (apart from fuel). Are these expensive/where can I get them from?

2. I need to pass SVA so will the std dash 2 pass? WSC state they were not sure if it would pass, but didn't say for sure.

3. I need mine fairly quickly, 6 weeks sounds too long, (why so long ???). Can WSC bring this down? Also whats the availability of the original bulk buy?

4. I don't mind making a loom but does anyone know which resistors etc are required?

5. The ETB digidash2 alays all these problems for me, for quite a lot less dosh apart from I think I prefer the looks of the dash 2, whats better about this one?

Over to you,

Convince me/help me with my concerns and you may have number 5 or 6 :)  :)  ;)

Dibbly,

1) Senders you'll need are coolant temp, oil pressure and speedo. You can probably get them all from westfield, although places like Merlin or DT will stock them too. The Westy speedo sender is £60, coolant temperature is about £15 and oil pressure is about £35.

2)  I'd hope that if WSC have gone as far as to have a modified unit made, it would pass SVA. Only Paul (potenza) can confirm this.

3) Pass.

4) I'm sure Neil will know the answer to this.

5) From what I've seen, I think this one looks better, clearer to read, has the graphical tacho as well as the sequential shift lights. Ultimately, it's just a matter of personal preference.

Dibbly,

1. As stated we can provide senders. We can offer as part of the bulk buy the senders @ 5% discount for 5+ orders of the dash, and 10% discount for 10+ orders.

2. The standard DASH2 from RT is SVA compliant in itself. The question is one of mounting position. If you mount it in front of the steering wheel the inner lights are obscured. Hence we have moved the lights such that the obscured lights are those which the SVA test center did not require to have a clear view of.

3. The lead time is that which has been quoted to us from our suppliers, both for the dash and the loom. We have some in progress currently which should be ready in 4 weeks.

4. The resistors required depend upon the sender guages you are using, and the voltage range you want to provide to the unit. You have to take care to ensure the resistance is high enough that the sender unit does not draw too much current causing heating effects.

5. As David said, a matter of personal preference. We evaluated both dashes (and others) before selecting a supplier. We chose the DASH2 on the basis of a number of criteria, not least of which was the slim line nature of the unit, and the configurability of the display for use in potential future vehicle applications.

Hope this helps.

Best regards

Paul

I have PM'd you about your questions.

About the sender, one of the best feature IMO of this dash is that it is configurable to work with any senders so I would buy the OEM units as they are designed to fit the engine and usually cheaper than the after market VDO etc units.

The standard Dash 2 is in stock so very short lead times

Thanks for the replys all, I'll do some more investigation on senders etc...

Neil, I'll give you a call when I have chance.....

Spotted something else though, I'm running an Omex 500 ECU which only has one Aux-out signal and its being used to control the fuel pump, therefore I can't output engine speed...........

I see from the threads that there may be a coil adaptor available from RT to combat this. Is this another additional cost or is there a way around it?

Cheers :)

Wayne, if your only aux out is used for the fuel pump, what would you usually use as a tacho feed with the Omex 500?

I've no idea :) this is my first build so learning as I go.....

The Westfield supplied engine harness for the Duratec has a fuel pump power point on the connector block which you would normally plug the webcon set-up into,

I've procured the opposite 'sex' connector for this to run my Omex from, and so I used the Aux to switch the pump as if you leave this pin unconnected the pump doesn't work.... would I just wire this to a switched live or something instead?

It works quite well as if there is no crank speed, after a couple of seconds, it kills the pump, nice safety feature :)

On my car, albeit with a Pinto carb loom, the fuel pump it's own switched feed which runs through the fuse box. It doesn't get the feed from engine management at all. I'm sure someone who knows duratecs and injection systems better than me will be along soon with the answer.

I am a definate for the Westfield supplied DASH2, the  Westfield wiring loom and a contoured dash

I am told by Paul that there is a four week lead time, from the manufacturers for the above.

On FI cars it's a fairly typical set up to power the fuel pump via the ecu. Fuel pressures are significantly higher, I guess it's just regarded as safer. Typically when you go to start the engine, the pump will be activated for a second or two to prime the system and provide enough fuel to start the engine. As soon as it transitions from cranking to running rpm, the pump will then be turned back on again.
