moochofun Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Lookin for an answer to a transmission query: I have a megablade that I want to use to go racing in sprints/hillclimbs next year. The car doesn't have a reverse box fitted - is it a requirement to have one fitted to do this type of racing? In the blue book the reg reads (L 10.8.1) "Roadgoing production, roadgoing specialist production, modified production cars. Reverse gear must remain operable" I'm not good with the legal language jargon type stuff, but with respect to the above, it sounds like if reverse is fitted, it must remain operable - but what if one isn't fitted? Help please! Quote
SteveD Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 to me it reads ,if reverse box is fitted must remain operable but isnt a reverse box a legal requirement for road use on a four wheel vehicle depends weather you intend to run in road going class or modified i suppose Quote
Terry Everall Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 For road going you need reverse Quote
Asterix Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 For road going you need reverse agreed. have a reverse mechanism = roadgoing = WSCC class E. No reverse mechanism = non-roadgoing = G. But there's still no reason why you can't enter your car, as it is*, in G. You'd just be at a disadvantage (other G's wouldn't have to carry all your roadgoing gubbins). *subject to scrute type regulations Quote
stewart pickles Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 you can have an electric reverse Quote
cast iron Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 I saw a really good set up on a blade engined Fury last week it used another blade starter motor onto a small cog on the output shaft Quote
grahame Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Good question this. I have a Westfield tunnel lubricator on one car, with a Muffet Diff. on the other, both therefore have mechanical reverse (I also have freshly rebuilt tunnel lubricator - ex. tunnel vibrator- from Mr Walker that may end up for sale soon, from the Muffet car, along with a low mileage 7.5" !! 3:36 Sierra LSD, props and shafts). Point is I DO have reverse, not because I need it for the road, it isn't directly mentioned in the Sprint regs (ASWMC) either, but I remember something in the MSA book.... I have fellow competitors who don't have a reverse, yet this causes no issues since the scrutineers never check, so I don't really see the presence or absence of a gearbox/motor/whatever is important (at least in the South West). Is this the same elsewhere....??? Has anybody ever been checked????? Quote
RICHARD+PHILIP Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 It seems fairly clear in the blue book Page 318 10.8.1 Road going production, roadgoing specialist, and mod prod cars reverse gaers must be operable at all times The scrutineers don't pick it up because They are safety officials not eligibility individual Championships regs (aswmc) are only suplimentry regs in addition to the blue book If you know of a competitor who doesn't have a reverse fitted then I suggest you have a quiet word in his ear then protest him if he continues. gixermark Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 its a req. ofthe750mc RGB series... they generally don't test it at scrutineering, but occasionally do spot checks after a race i believe.... no reverse - no points i think is how its treated.. Mark. Quote
