The Seer Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Anybody have an idea on how both BEC and CEC compare in reliabilty to each other. Running costs/servicing etc differ quite alot between the two? Many thanks. Quote
steve_m Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Depends on the state of tune but I'd want to change the oil in a bike engine more often than a car engine unless the car engine was regularly going to 9k rpm. Apart from that there probably isn't much difference, even a bike clutch will last a lot longer longer than expected. Quote
Blatman Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Also depends on mode of use and how well it was built in the first place... Quote
neilwillis Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Bike engines are smaller lighter, and rev harder. Stands to reason that they're more stressed, and therefore will require more maintenance. But, it is all really down to how you drive, and how hard you push the engine. Quote

But, it is all really down to how you drive, and how hard you push the engine. And how highly tuned the car engine you are comparing it too. a Standard Busa engine would compare pretty favourably to a VHPD 1.8 K sereies as fitted to an R500 !! Bazzer Quote
moomin Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 therefore will require more maintenance. holy cr4p, should I have done some maintenance to mine then? maybe I'll treat it some new plugs next year. it's a Honda, it'll be fine... moomin Quote
Pilot Pete Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I think MR C's engine had done something like 18 trackdays driven hard with no issues. I get the impression if installed right, looked after and driven conscientiously, they can be very reliable. Or at least I hope so. Quote
JeffC Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 yep and prob more than that but 18 trackdays = 36 hours driven flat out up and down the box and still was as sweet as the day it was fitted, to be critical if Id kept running that motor I would maybe have treat it to a gearbox rebuild but to be honest it didnt really need it, I oil change mine evry 3rd trackday, thats maybe overdoing it but at £50 per oil change I think its money well spent . my plan was fit a new engine (2007 motor cost £2700 ish) run it a full year then sell it on (get back £2500ish maybe more on ebay ) then fit another new one, that way for a couple of hunderd quid a year you are running a new motor then I bought this b****y carwith an engine that needs a rebuild every 20 hours Quote

As I've found out Quote
JeffC Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 If I were you I would drop the ol out and fill it full of gravy surely then it would expire Quote
