Shocking bit of PR from AVO

I know that the guy put his size 52's right in it BUT a lot of people seem to be getting far too much pleasure out of slagging AVO off....

Personally had no problems with them..

Regarding the Nitron NTXs, seeing as they're the same internally could Protech not service them for you perhaps?

Servicing's only half the problem for me - the fact that they've fallen apart and Nitron don't stock spares or seem prepared to repair them is more of an issue.

Don't know what the problem is with DWilkes' shocks though.

I was under the impression it was the new Nitrons that were the same as the Protechs not the old tbh if they were the same as the old nitrons that would be another crossed off the list cause they drive me nuts

the big issue i have with mine is the clicking, the noise of the valves inside is causing it apparently they get air in them !! so Nitron say

I think its more likely to be the old ones that the Protechs are the same as.

As the old nitrons were twin-tubes, and the new ones are now all mono-tubes.

And the protechs are twin-tubes (as are avos, spax, gaz etc).

You're unlikely to get monotube dampers at the price that Protechs etc sell for so I always assumed they were twin-tube as Al says.

Dan - yep was more aimed at DWilkes to see if he could get his fixed, I assumed you'd already binned yours!

cheers

Nah, haven't binned them yet.  You never know, I may suddenly go all strange and decide I want to build a trike... ;)

Yes it does seem a bit odd that someone is expecting a cheap shock to be rebuildable after 8 years. They must be full of rust & crap anyway. Come on, you wouldn't go down to your local motor factors with a set of shocks taken off an 8 year old mondeo & expect them to be "reconditioned" would you. ???

Try Ian Gardiner @ IG Racing for any shocker repairs.

Cheap dampers are usually not rebuildable and just get thrown away as they wear out. Good quality dampers tend to be rebuildable, and if you're using them for anything serious you would typically rebuild them once a year or perhaps once every couple of years. If they're treated as a 'fit and forget' they might last several years before they get into such a state that you have to rebuild or replace them. But just because they are in principle rebuildable doesn't mean that the manufacturer is going to guaranty to be able to rebuild them for decades to come. And if they're sent back absolutely shagged then they may well be beyond economic repair even if the manufacturer still has all the parts required to rebuild them. So you just have to face up to the fact that when you buy a set of dampers they have an expected life of (typically) a few years and you will eventually need to replace them. It happens that various manufacturers, including AVO, have a policy of selling the replacements at a significant discount under some circumstances. They've no obligation to do this but if they choose to then personally I think it's commendable.

I have been dealing with and using Avo for many years. Yes things do go wrong from time to time. But I have ALWAYS found the guys at Avo will pull out all the stops to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. As for rebuilding 8 year old dampers. If they could have been dismantled I am sure Avo would have rebuilt them.
