Rourkey Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Chaps, Out with a friend this weekend, he remarked on how much back firing my Westie was making. Not the kind from those classic 70's TV shows, enough to blow your wig off, but more of a crack / pop / gurgle. Basically it happens not always but sometimes when I lift of the accelerator. So I guess my question is .. Does this happen to anyone else ? Is this common or acceptable, is this a symptom of a problem or simply just something a tune up could irradicate ? I am running the 1.8 Zetec including Jenvey throttle bodies package bought from Westfield with the kit. I assume this would have the come with the appropriate ECU from Westfield for that, or is there no change in the mappings to accomodate the TB's ? An opinions welcome. Thanks All, Rourkey Quote
langy Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Happens to me all the time, great isn't it If you try hrd enough you can get a flame to leap out if teh exhaust as well Quote
RobC Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 mine does it too.. sets off car alarms when passing parked cars... Quote
Tigger Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Mine too, Love it I believe it's because of a leak in the exhaust but may be wrong Tiggs Quote
Hammy Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 ... possibly combined with a bit too much fuel on the overrun ? Quote
FW500 Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Yeah just overfuelling on overrun normally - it's fine and sounds good IMO - you can map it out if you want to save a few pennies on your fuel bill. Quote
samcooke Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 To a point it's fine but too much will destroy your exhaust. Check the exhaust gaskets for leaks, the fuel needs some air to burn. AIUI on fully mapped injection you shouldn't have it at all as there should be a fuel cut for the overrun. My favourite overrun noise comes from the A1GP cars. Sounds like 5th November. Quote

pistonbroke Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Mine does it , but only when things get hot Quote
spence Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Can't beat a bit of ....crack / pop / gurgle. Music to me lug 'ols son, music to me lug 'ols Quote
Roman Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I find myself backing off just to hear it. Quote
Tigger Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I find myself backing off just to hear it. LOL, that rings a bell Quote
FW500 Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 It's the grown-up's equivilent of unnecessarily-backing-off-aggressively-to-show-every-passer-by-that-you-have-a-dump-valve- fitted. Quote
Tigger Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 What ever makes you think that Neil? I just do it coz I like the sound, if it makes a passer by jump then it's a bonus Quote
Ginger Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Never been able to get mine to pop on overrun. And it's a X-Flow with 40s so it should be easy, shoudn't it? As backing off has failed to produce pops I just don't back off any more - 100% all the way! Quote
