TerryC Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 As it says Thinking of buying 9 month old 2.0 TDCI Galaxy. Your thoughts would be most welcome, especially from owners or sellers. I know it's a Ford, but JeffC, have you had any dealings.... Terry Quote
DAVE O Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 My mate has just got the 2L TDCi Ghia 6speed. Not my cup o T but he seems quite happy with it. I've been it a couple of times and its comfy - plenty of room for kids n cr*p. He paid just over £18k brand new from a dealer in Hendon N London cheapest he could find by a long way. Dave O. Quote
CedricTheBrave Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 i just test drove the Smax, drove well but still has same Ford build quality shut a door and it will rattle like a good un also sat in the back and all I could hear was the door seals squeeking still nice engine 2.ol tdci and handled reasonably well for a bus Quote
DavidR Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I had an R reg Galaxy for 4 years (120,000 miles)and it was great as a family bus, loads of room, space for the 3 kids to not be able to touch each other and still have luggage room. Drove well considering its size and was bigger than most small vans with all the seats out for runs to the tip and moving furniture etc. Downsides . .. . I had the 2.3l petrol so fuel consumption was 31mpg on a run, main reason why it was replaced. Minor niggles with the alarm / locking systems Rear tyres wore very quickly (12000 miles ish) to illegal on the outer edges leaving 6 mm of tread on the rest. Put this down to going too fast round roundabouts and motorways slip roads, tyre supplier said it was common on nearside but not so on offside. David Quote
KerryS Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 The only Galaxy worth having is the one that used to race in touring cars in the 60s. It trounced the Jag Mk2s and Zephyrs that were ruling it all at that time. But I think it was a Galaxie not a Galaxy but I stand to be corrected. Was it Frank Gardner who used to pilot them but names like Jack Sears and Jim Clark may also have driven them. Quote
pistonbroke 2 Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Gardner drove the Nuts of em but was no match for Jim (Im coming after you on 2 wheels ) cortina Clark. Dennis Leach was another Hero (Madder than the Maddest Mad Hatter) Dont know what happened to him but they where Legendary Sallon Races Quote

bill shurvinton Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Downsides . .. . I had the 2.3l petrol so fuel consumption was 31mpg on a run, main reason why it was replaced. We replaced our Pontiac transport after 10 years (shame as I loved that old bus). thought we ought to go to a slightly smaller engine than the 3.8 it had. So got a 3.5 V6 espace. Basically a slightly downtuned nissan 350Z lump. Luvverly and will apparantly crack 20MPG if you are careful. I'm not so it doesn't. Plan to get it converted to LPG in the next few months and then the fuel costs will be less of an issue. We were looking around for the 3 litre diesel model, but even 100K milers were 10 grand, which seemed a bit steep. I miss the old trans sport, don't really like the espace but the galaxy for some reason has never done it for me. If it had been my money (wife bought the car) I would have probably imported another left hooker from the states. Sports cars they don't understand but big comfy people carriers they do. Quote
felters Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Ford Galaxy ont track British Saloon Car Championship Hells teeth... just looking at the driver list makes your hair stand on end. Sears, Whitmore, Graham Hill, Frank Gardner, Salvadori, Alan Mann, Jeff Uren, Paddy Hopkirk, Richie Ginther. Roll on Goodwood! Edit to add the MPV Galaxy seems popular in the taxi trade so I guess it's reliable and cheap to run. Rather have a decent estate car myself. That sort of money will buy a good second hand E class... The Espace used a Renault unit as used in the V6 Clio. Because we let Reanult use it, the popular misconception arises that Nissan use a Renault V6 - b*****k LPG conversion mmm make sure you get hardened valves and seats or prepared to reset the valve clearance every 10K especially with a Renault lump Back on thread Andrea has the 1.9 auto on an 03plate, very comfortable to drive but its flat as a fart. It does about 45MPG and is great in the stop start traffic coming out of Cornwall Quote
bill shurvinton Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Well you had better correct wikipedia then, both under renault and Nissan QUOTE V The V engine is Renault's internal designation for the Nissan VQ engine, an overhead camshaft V6 used in the Vel Satis sedan and Espace minivan V4Y: 3498cc or wikipedia list of applications for VQ series Not saying you are wrong, but there isn't an in house 3.5 listed for renault anywhere, so if it ain't a VQ what the devil is it. I reckon its a VQ Quote
