Barry Ashcroft Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Need to get Lou a new car and she would like a two seater roadster but it must have a folding metal roof. Looked at a SLK but can't get my head round spending £34K I have been looking today at the Mazda MX5 Coupe/Roadster 2.0i Sport with BOSE. list £21960 got it down to £20800 and car is in stock they where on a 3month wait Never had a Mazda before any thought's? What can you recommed if anything? Jeff C/Scooby know any Mazda dealers willing to do the price starting with a 1 Quote
felters Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 The Mazda is a good car - but don't get hung up on the cash price. SLK residuals are the best in the market. Quote
samcooke Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Naah. Badge aint worth the extra, get the MX5. The new one is a bit lardier than the old, but it's much more comfy and refined, I drove from east anglia to wales in one and enjoyed it. I'd defo let the wife have one so I could knock about in it from time to time. £20,117 @ http://www.drivethedeal.co.uk/ Quote
westyblade Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 get the SLK you know it makes sense. Totally agree Quote
JeffC Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 £20,117.32 cheapest I could see on line with bose , dont know on availablity though can phone a local Mazda dealer on Monday see If they can do anything but the online deals are normally pretty much rock bottom in my experience and getting it to start with a one may be hard unless you can chuck a swapper into the deal with a bit of headstart on your side Quote
DavidC Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Naah. Badge aint worth the extra, get the MX5. The new one is a bit lardier than the old The new softtop is only 10kg heavier than the old one. The hardtop version is only 18kg heavier than the soft-top. An additional 28kg is hardly lardy. Is the £34k SLK the 200 or the 280? Quote
neilb Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 MX5 every time for me SLK is too heavy, expensive, you will get p155 poor service and get spanked for it But if you want the badge.... Quote
Vinny's Westie Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Having a SLK 55AMG, it goes well, bit heavy, crap service from dealer, gave me a new one 'cause the first one had too many faults (but was one of the first), oh and have I forgotten, really crap service, and the breakdown cover is not very good to say the least. Apart from that, the sound track is excellent and it goes like stink. Quote

Buzz Billsberry Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 What are the new MR2's like? for me they're better looking in thank the MX5 hairdryer? What about an MG midget with a busa in it? Oh by-the-way Barry have you thought of asking Lou what she'd like as a car! Buzz Quote
cng1 Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 MR2 is nice but in the quest for lightness some of the panels are a bit cheesey. Looking at one in a showroom a while back I lifted the bonnet and when I shut it I left a hand-shaped impression behind in it. Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 But you are forgetting this is for Lou and she considers the sensible things in a car Buzz Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted August 19, 2007 Author Posted August 19, 2007 MR2 is not made any more. It's her choice she can have what she wants Quote
