Press-syud replacement

Asterix

Recommended Posts

One of the press-studs on my tonneau has broken. I've tried to fix it before but it's beyond repair now.

The "button" part that you press remains on the upside of the tonneau, but the female ring that this is normally attached to on the underside of the tonneau has broken off and now remains on the male ring attached to the scuttle.

Separating the female ring from the male on the scuttle is easy (obviously I'll be leaving the male in place on the scuttle and just replacing the broken bit on the tonneau). Questions are: -

- What's the standard Westie application sized press-stud (if there indeed is a standard)?

- Where's the quickest and easiest place to get a press stud of that size (either in Leeds city centre at lunchtime today or around NG16 postcode over the weekend)?...any samaritan's got a spare? Am already investigating upholsterers and chandlers.

- Is it applied in the same way you'd do an eyelet in a sail (i.e. apply firm even pressure* on both sides of the button to clamp it to the tonneau?

*i.e. Hammer the bl**** thing

Thanks in advance chaps.

Go to a camping / caravanning shop and ask. You can buy a small kit which includes a punch and a setting tool for use by small hammer along with both parts of the press studs.

Also try ebay

If you haven't got anything by the weekend you could try graham dean in ilkeston im sure he'll have something knocking about and would probably just give you a couple.

His number is 0115 9307144.

Sorry i didn't get chance to speak to you last night.
