Burno1 Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Hi I am looking to purchase a Westfield and have decided that a bike engined is one is for me. Having spent the last couple of weeks talking to many proud owners / sellers ( thanks for the assistance, I am still unclear as obviously the sellers opinion is going to be biased toward their car ! I want the car for road fun and want performance...I drive a Volvo !! Any unbiased advise - pro's and cons of each and dry sump ?? Secondly - anybody live near to Chester (Broughton) who could check out a funny noise on a Megablade (Diff area I think - Pistonheads Orange Megablade ) Thanks in advance More Confusion having visited Westfield today however positive advise ! Spec required has now changed and thanks to those who have contributed to my research to date. Full Spec required can be found on Pistonheads. SEiW Westfield wanted for quick road use Looking ideally at circa 190 BHP +, maybe a Megabusa, 2.0 Duratec, 2.0 Zetec with throttle bodies, Speed Sport or Sport Carbon. Quote
peterg Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 For road fun, any of the Mega models (Blade/Bird/Busa) will do and be loads faster than a Volvo If, after a while, you decided to do track days, then a Blade will be quicker than most but a Busa will be quicker than almost anything short of a Radical (the Bird comes almost exactly in between) - there are some issues regarding dry-sumping for track use for some engines to prevent damage but for fast road use there's no problem and unlike car engines, if one goes pop then you can source a new unit fairly cheaply (under £1k for a Blade up to £2.5k for a Busa) They can all be a bit tiresome to drive in traffic but once on the open road, flicking effortlessly up the sequential box and hearing the engine rev to 10 or 12k, then all you can do is Oh, and the noise from the Megablade may well be the reverse box assuming if has one as it's a well known source of rumbling etc - failing that, it could be the diff itself Quote
The Great Fandango Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I love to know if anyone's plonked a Fazer engine into a Westfield yet? It's basically the same engine as the R1 but designed with the "tourer" in mind. Still bl**** quick. I'm reliably informed all Yamaha engines are "bullet-proof" Quote
Crazy Eddie Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Hiya Burno welcome to the forum There is a guy on here, who's name escapes me, that has a Fazer engine in his car and seems good. You can put pretty much any bike engine in it but all the R and D has been done for you on the "Mega" range so easy to get info / advice / parts. If this is Mike, who came to look at mine, then you know the reasons I went for the blade ie, cheap engine + replacements, not a lot of difference between busa power and cheaper to buy in the first place. (having said that there is one for sale on here for blade money so do a quick search and it should come up) All the best with your hunt and to be honest whatever engine you go for you will have a hoot Cheers Eddie Quote
originalgeezer Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Eddie He has already been to look......told him all about the pro's and con's of both - not to meniton about the Bird engine too. Advert on PistonHeads lists requirements and Mike, there is one on EBAY at the moment that fits what you want. Quote
Burno1 Posted August 6, 2007 Author Posted August 6, 2007 Thanks for all of your input. Having been to Westfield again today and discussed options, the spec sought via PistonHeads has now changed !! I know I'm being a bit of a woman but at the end of the day, It is hard earned cash and I want the right car with as little compromise as possible. When I see it, I will know it is the one ! Stu - Steve at Westfield expressed an interest in your Busa on condition that it is a factory build - Give him a call - Steve in Sales (You said that a dealer sale might be an option) Quote
originalgeezer Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Well I saw the Carpets comment and didnt post.......as some people are sensitive about these things :-) The guys at Westfield should know the car as I know most of the staff know it as the original owner was erm erm can we say a little fussy. Got a couple of dealer options at the moment, but as part ex and they havent really got the car spec i want, so may give them a call tomorrow as with cash in my hand i can just do a straight buy Or, its off to Ebay auction. originalgeezer Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Thanks Mike, Have called Steve and he sounded resonably interested in finding out mroe, so has took my details etc and just wait and see if get a phone call back to follow it up or not, then obviously its all about the money. But the Busa has now been reduced for a quick sale, or i will have to consider my options. Quote
