armchair Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I'm racked off with my dcoe 40s, as per all the threads on here I have got them on misabs with rubbers and cups to 2mm gap, previously stripped and serviced - noticed that someone had tapped the starter circuit outputs for the manual choke (very badly) and left half a ton of swarf in there - removed and cleaned, cleaned the starter valves and seats. Floats set to 8.5mm closed and 15mm stoke - they seem ok in terms of no pinholes etc. The only thing I did notice when examing the carb when off the manifold was some seepage of petrol in the accelerator pump lever/spindle sping recess behind the inspection plate when moving the spindle a few times - Is it possible that the spindles are worn? they move without a problem... But even if that was the case I can't imagine that it should be able to leak that much without effecting the running (which is near perfect). Also - Sorry for the dummy question but is the small hole in the butterflies ment to be at the top or bottom of the carb? Currently at bottom... Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers! Quote

Most people would probably buy new carbs, I was most impressed by the pictures of quite how many pieces you'd got yours into! Fingers crossed that sorts it, specially now the weather is half decent. xflowphil Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 John, May sound like a silly question, but where are the pump jet diaphragms on a dcoe carb? as i understood it, the accelerator pump is a brass piston running in a bore machined in the body of the carb? Armchair, best of luck sorting your dcoes, my webers were leaky but are now fixed (i had a thread here at the time) - turned out to be a leaky starter valve on the back of the carb. Worn spindles sounds much harder to fix - have you spoken to Eurocarb? they're pretty good for bits - also found a guy with a website 'fast road cars' to be a good source of bits too - he's on ebay as well. Also agreed re the accelerator pump jet - uses brass piston Anyhow breaking two dcoe 40 series 31 if anyone needs any parts at reasonable prices let me know For those thinking of dismantling the spindle assembly - don't, the spindles are pretty much impossible to get hold of apparently - Rocking horse poo case I'm afraid! If you are feeling brave you need to club 7 bells out of the spindle to get the bearings to shift, I certainly ended up bending the spindle trying to remove them - but then it was nbg anyway! I suppose the positive from this is that I now know the workings of a DCOE 40 fairly intimately Quote
