Cannon Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 I purchased a secondhand factory built 1600 CVH widebody a couple of months ago & the performance is acceptable but not as quick as I'd hoped. I'm considering taking it for a rolling road tune up, what BHP & 0-60 time should I be looking for after this? Where's the best place to take it to in the West Yorks area? Quote
stu999 Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Depends on how bad the setup is at the moment. If it isnt too far away now, then there isnt going to be much improvement... Quote
CrashBangWallop Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 The person who I bought my bog-standard CVH, twin 40's car off had it RR'd shortly after taking it. The Flywheel BHP was 100.6 bhp, 74.7 at wheels. I have a few other figures that might be of some use as reference: 0-100 = 16.2 secs 40-60 = 3.0 secs 60-80 = 2.7 secs 80-100 = 3.5 secs These figures were done on the dyno test. Deduction would say that 0-60 takes 10 seconds Edited to say: That sounds a bit naff, actually. That means it took 7 seconds to reach 40 mph. However, I found out that the speeds were only started at 40 and done in fourth gear only. Phew! I knew it wasn't that slow. Cheers, Neil Quote
Jenko Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 A well set up standard CVH running on twin 40's should see you with around 95-100bhp at the wheels....... First off, I would ask if the carbs have been set up correctly, as this can make a huge difference...... As for further tuning.....getting rid of the distributor and fitting electronic ignition is a big help for the throttle response and low down running...Head porting, cam upgrades, an liberate a fair mount of bhp on the cvh. If you want to go for th ultimate head, go solid lifter. As for 0-60, I would guess around 7 seconds...but would not worry too much about this....gear ratios can make a huge difference to how the car feels, as does the suspension set up... Quote
betarev3 Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I have an original westfield promo brochure, the 1600 CVH with a type 9 5 speed box qouted as 105 bhp at the flywheel (probably not twin 40's) is qoutes a 0-60 time of 6.3 seconds and top speed of 108. As previously stated with a decent cam (piper285) and a gas flowed head you should be looking at 130 bhp. Do a internat search for tunning CVH there are are a number of good tunning sites, Ferriday is one of them. I believe that one of the CVH engines used in the westfield speed series was running approx 160 bhp. I am at present running a CVH at 150 bhp but its a 1.9. Quote
slippy Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Guys at FERRIDAY ENGINEERING know there stuff and seem very helpful to boot. Site is interesting reading to but be careful of looking at the cost of upgrading then being tempted by a newer engine/car been there done that and it's a slippery slope Quote
SwissWesty Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Look here, a lot of info concerning CVH's: PUMA RACING Quote
Little John Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 I run a standard CVH in the Speed Series, been on the rolling road a couple of times in the last few years, carbs adjusted each time. 1st time out with a standard westfield exhaust it was 92 hp at the flywheel, a couple of years later with a bigger silencer, 101 hp; same RR I now have a Ferriday modified head (Piper 285 etc) to be fitted and am hoping for around the 125. BLOGGY S7 Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 I have a modified 1.6 CVH in my trackday Fiesta Piper285 Cam/ported & Polished head etc, and it is running 92BHP at the wheels at the min. However I am not happy with the settings of the twin 40s carbs at present and I too am looking for a better rolling road to take it too!! I am thinking here at the min: http://www.noblemotorsport.co.uk/index.html I will let you know!! Quote
