Does anybody know if there's a legal Db limit for road car exhausts? Recently had a new box fitted and it's measuring 94 Db which I reckon sounds too loud at some revs!

Anyone?

SVA limit is 101db. Nothing to worry about if it has measured 94... :t-up:

Never seen a noise meter at an MOT station either, and I've presented some pretty loud cars and bikes over the years

Besides, 94dbA is pertty quiet...

I've MOT'd a car that even I thought was a bit iffy, and I have a bird engine with just a middling sized Micron race can! The car (my mini) is much louder than the 7. I could even be heard 2 miles away when I worked earlies! Still fine according to Mr MOT.

Had this back from the Cheshire Police with regards to legal noise levels. They're saying 86 Db is the legal limit???!?!

The sound level measured in accordance with 5.2.2.2 to 5.2.2.5 of this Annex,                                                        |

(a) in the case of vehicles with engine power of less than 75             kilowatts, shall not exceed 84 decibels                      |

(b) in the case of vehicles with engine power not less than      75 kilowatts, shall not exceed 86 decibels.                  |

I've driven mine home 40+ miles with no exhaust at all before now passed a police car and he didn't even bother.

That appears to be the Annex for commercial vehicles, though without more of the quote, it's hard to tell.  :D

Is the police figure an average weighted figure and at the roadside????

SVA is at 1 meter.

94db I wouldn't worry.

Also I remember seeing TVRs having to fit additional silencers to get under 98dbs  at a track day last year.
