Need to download some tunes for my I-pod and wondered what the best sites were for this.

I have heard of a few Peer-sharing sites but can’t remember where to find them.

Thanks

Hi, depends on what you want to download.  I use a couple of free download sites, one has all the best dance music and is strictly a music lovers site, the other is a website focussed upon providing for all men’s needs ;) !  Sport, news, ladies and includes some of the best music around, ranging from all the heavy metal bands past and present, pop,  classic soul artists like Aretha Franklin etc. and even opera.  It also has all of the latest movies but they must be pirates and I couldn’t possibly condone downloading that sort of thing.  If you're broadminded enough drop me a PM and I'll give you the sites

Cheers

How much do you value your PC?  I wouldn't touch any P2P sites with a barge-pole on any PC you'd like to keep clean.  Get someone else to download it for you and copy it onto a memory stick. :)

Type the words 'bit torrent' into google. but as CrashBangWallop says be prepared for your PC to go belly up at some stage.

Since its just for your IPod dare I suggest ITunes? The quality is ok and the songs don't cost that much.

I've had a work colleague using www.allofmp3.ru for a couple of years, now.  The legalities of the site outside Russia are somewhat open for discussion (it's it's all legal and above board in Russia).  Very cheap and he's had no problems with it, spam. mal-ware or anything else.  You used to be able to pay by debit card but, it's getting slightly more difficult to pay for songs, if you're outside of Russia.  Still, it's one of the UK's biggest download sites...  ever...  Pt 6... It's peer-to-peer software like all the others: - Kazaar; Bit-torrent; E-donkey, etc.

There's no such thing as free.  You download the songs/software off P2P sites you're setting yourself up for someone probably far cleverer than you are on your PC.  If you were that clever, you wouldn't have installed it in the first place. ;)

It's like using a public computer and logging onto your bank account then walking away.  Most people would leave it alone, but it only takes one person to clean you out.

I don't know any company that allows P2P software to be installed on their machines.  There's a reason for this.

88p (or whatever, it is) isn't much for a single song.  They used to be around three squids for a vinyl, seven inch.  Alright you got the 'B' side, too. But, they were normally cr@p, anyway :D

If you must feel the need to use them, pick up a real cr@ppy PC  for £50 and use it as a download machine with minimal software capable of scanning the files you download.  That way, once your machine starts sending you pop-ups as regular as bowel movements, you know it's time to wipe your drive and re-install.

I'm probably being a bit anal, but I feel slightly better that all my business addresses/telephone numbers and bank accounts are not sitting alongside debbie-does-dallas[real].Ep2.avi.zip

Phew!

That's my rant over with.

google and download utorrent (stand alone version) and install, its free and perfectly safe.

google for mininova(my favourite) , isohunt, pirate bay or torrent spy. choose a catagory , music ,movies, software etc etc.type the artist /album title in the search bar ,look for the one with the most activity ie seeders and leechers and double click on download now,it will automatically open utorrent and ask you if you wish to proceed with the download.click yes and sit back while your music downloads.if its a big file then overnight should do it.when its finished downloading it will say its seeding ,meaning that you are now giving it to someone else ,so highlight it and click stop(the red box).right click on the file and click on open file ,click play just to check its what you wanted before you drag and drop it into "my music" in my documents and when its there you can drag and drop/copy it into itunes music file (top left on itunes)

p.s. if you want to download movies just type axxo into the search bar and click away, his films are always top quality.

pp.ss never had a virus or other pc problem with bit torrent downloads.stay away from limewire its full of virus

I disagree.  I have never had a virus or spyware issue from Limewire AFAIK.  Limewire software itself isn't isn't full of viruses but, yes, people do put virus files on there for you to inadvertantly download.  So you have to be careful - don't download stuff that obviously ain't music (e.g. .exe, .scr, .lnk,. zip, .bat, .vbs, .dll, .doc or the porn) and keep antivirus, antispyware and firewall etc. bang up to date and run scans regularly (in saying that, I get very little in terms of any viruses or spyware - the odd tracking cookie is all)

This also seems to suggest that Limewire is possibly the best of the bunch:

Comparison of Unwanted Software Installed by P2P Programs

But I'm not hung up about it either way.  Use it if you want, don't use it if you don't.  Just wanted to point out that I'm not entirely stupid :p

Edited to say that I'm sure someone will now come along and tell me that I AM entirely stupid.  C'est la vie
