originalgeezer Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 As some of you may have read, i have put my car choice in the hands of the gods to sell if it sells. Whilst i have sold many small items on EBay, has anyone on here sold a car or even bought a car on EBay? What was your experience good or bad? I would advertise on here, before anyone says, but my Membership has not arrived thorugh yet so cant. In the meantime i have put it on Piston Heads also, can you recommend anywhere else to advertise? If it makes any difference, to where to advertise its a Mega Busa Quote
rm163603 Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 The only other place I can think of is the classifieds on bookatrack.com regarding selling on ebay, I think it would be a great way to get exposure for it but I would still expect to sell to someone who has been to look at it etc. Stick it on a 10 day auction with a decent reserve but no buy it now. I would also be careful with your selling preferences. Require bidders to have a credit card on file and only allow bidders with 10 or more feedback is what I would do. Quote
Azzacat Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Well I have sold two cars on ebay in the last 18 or so months, No real problems, The first car i was an MX5 loads of interest, loads of stupid questions and one real time waster! Basically a family turned up, test drove loved it went away, came back the next day and asked me to end the auction early as they deffinatly wanted the car and made a very good offer, they left all the cash they had £15.00 and went away to wait for the MOT pass as agreed, the day they came to collect it i got a phone call saying they had changed their mind!!!bangshead: I then had the cost of relisting but then sold a week later to Reaper on this forum.. So lesson is dont trust anyone or accept offers in kind! The second car was a Dog of an MK1 MR2 which I made quite clear what was wrong with it, sold it for £1200 from 99p Would do it again! Quote
Eccentric_Rich Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 I've bought a car on Ebay without any problems but it was reasonably local to me so I contacted the Seller and arranged a test drive etc. I did all the usual checks just the same as I would of done if i'd bought it via the local paper / Autotrader etc. I made sure the Seller was the legal owner, checked the car for accident damage, rust, good mechanical condition etc, etc. I would never buy a car unseen on Ebay or anywhere else for that matter. MK11 Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 I have bought and sold some quite expensive items via Ebay but then tried unsuccessfully to sell a car . Car had plenty of interest and bids, but the winning bidder then claimed a sudden tax bill and wouldn't pay up. Relisted, had 75 watchers but no bids, go figure? Eventually sold the car via WhichKit, in fact I had more potential buyers phone up after seeing the advert after the car was sold. Quote
JeffC Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 best advice I would give is forget the auction and put it on as a classified ad, I find if you use the auction it draws all the w****r under the sun your way that think they are going to own your £10k car at £200. Ebay will get you a big audience and a classified ad with your asking price clear imho makes life much easier Quote
originalgeezer Posted July 19, 2007 Author Posted July 19, 2007 Never even thought of Booka Track...Dah. But just been speaking to a guy, who had emailed me as soon as the advert appeared, seems very genuine and has already made a firm bid on the car subject to viewing, which he is now trying to sort out to get here asap. So may not need it, but have had several people in touch just asking questions on "how to" or can I just help them etc, which I dont mind with so far, but if that proves to be the trend, my general good nature to help anyone where i can will go out the window. wilsonch Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 With any advertising expect morons, you will get an annoying amount of daft questions but try and be polite but firm. I sold all the bits from a Hayabusa strip down bar engine/loom on ebay and for the most part it went very well. I hate to say it but treat everyone with a degree of suspicion then you are less likely to get fleeced. If someone comes to view and wants it, get as big a deposit as possible an write a receipt as 'Non refundable' two copies both sighed date, address never sold a car on ebay but cars in classified adds beware of the people who 'guarantee to sell your car' they are ALL full of S*** and you might as well throw your money down the toilet. But good luck with the sale Chris Quote
davidgh Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Only one experience. I sold my wife's 1993 (twelve years old at the time) LHD (bought whilst we lived in Germany) MX5. Loads of interest, including two people who assured me they would match the winning bid if they failed in the auction. I made sure that I described the car fully, warts and all, and included photos of every conceivable thing. The advert insisted on cash or certified cheque with collection. Winner turned up on the day after the auction finished with the (rather embarrassing for a twelve year old car) sum of £4300 in cash in a carrier bag. Fully 50% more than I expected to get. Would do it again. HTH Quote
frubpato? Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 just sold 2 cars My old Laguna sport tourer - 134k miles and a bit knacked and it got 2100 quid - I felt quite guilty when this young couple came for it - with ina envelope the correct money down to 3p that they bid. No problems for me at least - yes you get some stupid questions My favourite was " what is your lowest end it now price" Idiot!!! The other was an old Saab 96 project that never got the attention - no problems either paide through paypal and everything fine I dont think its necesarily perfect but it worked for me. Quote
originalgeezer Posted July 23, 2007 Author Posted July 23, 2007 well as you the general feeling was it is a reasonable thing to do, i have bitten the bullet and put the Busa Beast up on EBay for Sale. Bl00dy good value for the advert really, £12.99 with up to 12 pictures for 28 days..... Not sure if it will sell on there, but a good 28days adverting it cant do any harm. Can anyone see anything wrong with the advert, car, price etc....feedback appreciated and thanks in advance. Quote
Symbiotic_Caterpillar Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 I can see that you are now a WSCC member but you are sailing a bit close to the wind putting an ebay link/ car advert in this section of the boardroom. Just thought I would say before the big guns start firing. Quote
originalgeezer Posted July 23, 2007 Author Posted July 23, 2007 Why? is it against the rules? Just asking for feedback on the advert, make sure its okay.....so i can ammend it accordingly, proof reading as done a few and all become a blur. Cam remove it if it really offends anyone. Quote
originalgeezer Posted July 23, 2007 Author Posted July 23, 2007 There you go, link removed to save the Police coming to tell me off..... Quote
