lhrbramall Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Hi I have a Megabird and want to do a track day, but it has a 100db noise limit, any easy ways of baffling the exhaust or similar? Quote
stu999 Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 It really depends on how far off you are now, and whether it is just a static test that will be carried out, or whether there will be a drive-by meter around on track too. Decibel reducer inserts can be purchased that affix into the tailpipe which can help knock off a couple of db. I personally wouldnt advise trying to stuff wire wool into the system to try and reduce noise. It usually finds it's way back out, and quite often on fire too! After that, it is likely to be credit card bashing time I'm afraid.. Quote
lhrbramall Posted July 16, 2007 Author Posted July 16, 2007 I've just ordered a sound meter from bookatrack to find out but I reckon around 102-103db, but i'll see, where do I get these decibel reducers from? It is a static test, but at 3/4 the rev range, although I don't have a red line marked on the tach, so I guess I could reduce it by a 1000 or so Being a bec, when you get to 9000, that seems high enough? darthurs Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 The angle of the outlet can help by a few db's on static tests if you can adjust it. I'm not sure if you can on a bike engined can. If you can point the outlet upwards by a few degrees then it stops the sound bouncing back up off the floor into the meter. Dan Quote
Mark Stanton Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 who's / what exhaust do you have at present and how old is it Quote
Crazy Eddie Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Well 102 is quite quiet IMHO for a BEC mine at 7000 is about 115Db! I was adviced that when asked "what does it rev to?" to reply 7000 so that you're only asked for 5000 ish and on mine that came out at 99Db on a Megablade with standard westfield exhaust. Some of the Bec boys (who hopefully will add to this) have found that the R1 standard motorbike exhaust is good for reduced noise but not too much reduced performance. I'm getting hold of one as we speak so when it's fitted I'll let you know. If it's in time of course. Cheers Eddie Quote
Hammy Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 and don't forget inlet noise - this can be as big a problem as Exhaust noise. Quote
