Trailer Hire, Buy, Tow or Drive???

Hiya Guys,

Just trying to decide what would be best to do. Fancy doing about 5 - 10 track days a year and after not getting to one due to failure was wandering what was my best option?

Quite like the BJT minno type that fits in the garage but these A frames look interesting or is it best to hire?

Is there a market if I bought one to perhaps lend it out to members for example for bear tokens etc??

What would you guys do or indeed what do you currently do?

Cheers

:D Cheers James although buying one seems to be the desired choice.

(Providing the people voting aren't doing so just so they can borrow it   )

Keep the votes coming guys my need to use this as proof to the wife what is the best option  :t-up:

Eh? Thought you were selling it?

So long as you have the storage space, buy one. They'll only lose a couple of hundred pounds no matter how long you kkep em.

Cheers guys I've actually been looking at the minno as it fits into the garage so that it won't take up room on the drive.

Seem to be able to pick up 2nd hand around £750 - £1000 so not too bad. Are these as good as the clubman for example?

Cheers

If you really are going to do nearer 10 trackdays per year then buying one is the best option, but if its only going to be 3-5 per year then Id rent.

I did have my own trailer when I was doing more trackdays, but in the last couple of years the figure has dropped to nearer 5 so Ive sold it and will now rent. A lot depends on if you have a place to store a trailer and/or how far/cheap your local rental place is. Luckily mine only charge £35 for 24 hours, rising to £100 for a whole week, so given that I got £800 for flogging my trailer and Id have to pay £25/month to securely store a trailer, its not worth owning one, especially when you consider the time / money it cost servicing and keeping it roadworthy etc.

For that reason I wouldnt bother renting / loaning it out on a regular basis as it would be more hassle than its worth for the money you could ask.

In four years of sprinting/trackdays, I have always trailered my baby to events. If I had not, I would have had problems getting back (once when I lost oil pressure and ruined the big ends, and at the recent Westfield curborough meet when I barbequed my clutch instead of the sausages!). It has also been used to bring back a mates car from Harewood when he knocked a corner off at orchard.

The car lives on the trailer (its a BJ minno) in the garage with jacks etc stored underneath.

The opinion of a wife!!!

Buy a trailer!  :)

Howard's got a BJ Clubman, it lives in the garage with the Westy on it and has been vital to bring home the Westy after those little unforseen 'incidents' that have made it undriveable!

(By the way, it was me who suggested he buy a nice shiny new one after a silly ebay purchase of a second hand one that was completely unsuitable.)
