hi to all.just bought myself my first westfield after helping a good friend build a tiger avon.what a close shave i had. he nearly convinced me to buy a tiger but found a beautiful seiw zetec in red with only 3k on the clock. havent stopped smiling all week and only £220 to insure.i will be asking plenty of questions from all you knowledgable people of the westfield family.your experience would be highly grateful. p.s. steer from the rear!

Welcome Gregboy and congrats on making the right decision :t-up:

Plenty of friendly advice here and don't forget that the "Search" option is your friend.

BTW: I still smile when driving mine and I've had one for years :D:D

I too helped a mate build a Tiger (Avon) before I bought my Westfield starter kit last March..........

It wasn't a hard decision to choose the Westy if you know what I mean  ;)  :D

Enjoy yours, can't wait to get mine finished........

welcome... Personally I don't like the Tigers (or whatever) are crap type talk.  Kit cars is a small friendly community and I wouldn't knock any other car or the choice others make.  I recently met a load of Tiger owners at a pub , there were some really superbly built cars and nice people who made me very welcome. Similar with the locost guys I've met.

keep it positive ,enjoy the car !!

Personal opinion but there you go

Really we all need to stick together!

Hammy,

Calm down, nobody has actutally said Tigers or whatever are crap. I too have seen many superb Tigers, Locosts, MK's etc and one of the best handling cars I've seen is actually a Locost (Stu's in fact) :).

Just by saying you prefer one to another doesn't mean that everything else is crap, it's simply a personal choice which we are all entitled to :t-up: .

You are correct in saying "Really we all need to stick together" and I do but choices are choices. :D:D

Fair comment tigs, i didn't want to go off on one or upset folks ... it was the "what a close shave I had" (being associated in my mind with "a lucky escape") phrase that upset me

nuff said, i'v had me prozac. !

The amount of effort and to and froing between the factory that is required for a Tiger build is a testament to the builders but not so good for the manufacturer. I will post a link to one irrate builders site if required

Go Ahead! thats one persons problems!

Yes they have issues but I never went back to the factory, considering its my first  Build of any kind i'm pleased with the car I have!

My biggest problem with mine is the body work, it really lets the mark down, this has been expressed to Jim D by many Builders/Owners the answer you always get back is Its a budget kit! Slightly annoying!

All in all the car is what you make it and requires a little thought while building, Its not an Airfix Kit like others.........

the bodywork is the problem.the rest of the car works on the exact same principle as the westfield but the bodywork is the end finish.if tiger could sort this out there reputation would be better and jim would not have to describe it  as a budget kit,

A mate of mine just building one, he probably would have gone westfield but did'nt do enough research and is a tad impulsive ...

having said that he's getting on with it. the construction is solid enough and he will end up with driveable car and the experience for his inevitable next build..the westy is well developed after many years and we take for granted the preformed panels and availability of any component that we need. i have a freiend with a luego in build too and he has the same toil fabricating brackets and panels from scratch but its kept him busy and another great car has resulted...

the killer for me is the finish and second hand values which mean you lose a load initially....does'nt make it a bad car....its all down to personal taste
