Can any one please enlighten me as to why my PC keeps turning certain JPEGS into DAT files yet it doesn't do it to all of them. This aplies to pictures taken t by the same camera

Is there anything I can do to stop this or a way of the recipent opening them in JPEG so they csn view the picture

Cheers

In my limited understanding a "DAT" file is a corrupted file.

Might be worth re-loading the program.

I stand to be corrected

Did you see them as JPGs at any time? Or where they downloaded onto the computer as .DATs?

.DAT files are, in very basic terms, a kind of data file that tells you there is data there.

There could be any number of reasons why yours keeps doing that to some of your files but the easiest way to get round it would be to:

Right click on the file you want to view as a picture and click the 'open with' tab. This will bring up a list with some stuff im sure you wont have a clue about, dont panic!

If you can see your picture viewing software on the list that pops up then select it.

If you can not see the above then click on the 'choose program' tab above and find your picture viewing software from the directory that comes up. Then click 'ok' and that should sort you out

Cheers guys but not much help if I get a dat file I normally right click and type in rename jpeg and that seems to work. However I'm trying to find the reason why its changing it. Plus it only happens when I send it to a hotmail account can you shed any light on that?

when you send it to a hotmail account, is it from your computer to another computer or is it all on the same computer?

a .DAT file is usually crated when the data in the file cannot be read by any software on the computer. If your sending it from your computer to another computer then make sure you have the camera software installed on both machines. If that doesnt work then i'm affraid i'm out of ideas as i've never come across the problem before

sorry i cant be anymore help
