A common question on this forum is questions on which engines fit.....Of course, the tru answer is ANY engine will fit, but the work required for non standard engines is vast....

In this case, although you access to a VW engine, the cost of other conversion bits will be far more than fitting something like a zetec....Unless you have a real urge to own a car which is different, it simply is not worth it....A zetec can be bought new for 700 quid, and all the bits to fit are off the shelf...the VW engine is quite tall, and I think it's also quite heavy...honestly, I would not bother.....You would need to budget for new exhaust system, bellhousing, potential chassis mods, shortened sump, higher bonett, etc, etc....

Other popular choices are Duratec, and VX.....All of which would be much cheaper, and much easier to fit....

thanks for reply

im planning a full strip and rebuild sept/oct time as due to insurance claim new bodywork will be fitted, so i thought it would be an ideal time to upgrade engine.

often fancied bike engine but still cant see putting extra weight / stress through bike engine can be good.i know im trying to achive the impossible ( loads of power- little spend ) but i would like to find an engine that once fitted doesnt need removing/repairing @ regular inveralls.i have found out the vw eng is aorund 180bhp

std ,and with remapping 250 is achivable, this is the attraction to me but do take on board your comments ie exhuast ,bellhousing etc etc

many thanks dave

I assume you actually mean the 1.8L engine (AKA 1.8T - commonly found in VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda tintops) rather than a 2 litre engine?

If so, there's a bellhousing available from Holland IIRC (edit just found the link here ) to allow a Ford gearbox to bolt on.
