homesteady Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 I've just, with the help of two strong friends, fit my Zetec 1800 and gearbox into my SEIW. Everything seemed ok but I've ended up with the nearside gearbox casing touching the chassis. I suspect if I don't do anything it'll shake the tub when I fire it up. What's the best way to shift the engine over a few mm? I could elongate the engine mount location hole, but will there be enough play in the gearbox location holes to allow movement? I'd appreciate your thoughts. Quote
zvezdochka Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Mine also touched the chassis, due to a stub on the gearbox casing. Westfield recommend that this is cut off before installation but we hadn't taken enough off. I managed to use a hack saw blade to take off another 5 mm in situ. Even now it is only about 4 - 5mm from touching. Rick Quote
Chasmon Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 I cut the lugs off but my problem was the integral actual bell housing touching of the MT75. I had to move the engine over a bit to sort it. Just elongated the hole on the mounts slightly. Apprently it has to do with it being a cable clutch and not hydraulic (I think the starters are on different sides...) HTH C Quote
homesteady Posted May 30, 2007 Author Posted May 30, 2007 Thanks guys. Its the casing which is touching so I guess I'll have to work on the mounting holes. My clutch is hydraulic, anyone know where the bleed nipple is located? Quote
Mark Stanton Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 You may need some spacer plates on your engine mount to shift it over Quote
homesteady Posted May 30, 2007 Author Posted May 30, 2007 Thanks mark, Guess I'll need to check position of mounting bolt in nearside slotted bracket first and see how much movement I can get. Its going to rain at weekend so the garage beats the garden! Quote
Steve20 Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Mine also touched (Zetec and MT75) despite having removed the lugs before fitting, solved the problem by using a hacksaw blade to remove some more material, now have about 4mm clearance. Would try this route before making mods to the engine mounts. Quote
